How to read more books in 2018
[via LA Times]
Do it. Read more books. Here are some ways to help you get started.
Buy an e-reader.
You can download thousands of free ebooks from Project Gutenberg and your public library. Download a bunch and peruse them at your leisure. Speaking of libraries...
Use the library.
It’s always surprising how many people don't realize the library carries new releases in addition to classics. When you hear about a book you want to read, check your library first. Even if it’s checked out, you can always put it on hold. Free books!
Join a book club.
Book clubs encourage you to try books you might not have picked otherwise, and are a great way to make new friends. Hey, you can ask about book clubs while you’re at the library (see above)! If you'd like to be around other readers but not interact with any of them, you can always attend a meeting of the Silent Book Club, which has clubs in many major cities.
Make your phone reading-ready.
Download e-reader apps to your smartphone, and if you have Wi-Fi enabled on your e-reader, you can move between the two. Put down your book before going to bed and then, while you're waiting in line for coffee the next morning, open it to the same page from the app on your phone and read a few pages.
Join GoodReads.
You can connect a GoodReads account to your Facebook page, or make a separate one. Set your goal for 2018, update regularly, and it'll tell you how far ahead (or behind) you are in your goal. It’s also a great place to see what others are reading, check reviews, and get ideas for good books to read.

How to Make Time to Read
How much are you reading these days? Thanks to an adventurous daughter who volunteered for the Peace Corps, our family gathered this month in a place where Internet is pretty much not available. North Ambae, one of 82 islands that make up the nation of Vanuatu We hiked, swam, visited, tried kava, attended a kastom (custom, or traditional) wedding, ate fresh, organic, locally grown food … Island…

National Readathon Day
So evidently Saturday, Jan 24, is National Readathon Day! Brilliant. So I can do what I would be doing anyway, only smile smugly at people and feel entirely justified when I hold up a finger and say, “I’ll get to that after I finish this chapter.”
I tried that technique as a kid.
Dinner? After this chapter.
Chores? After this chapter.
Sleep? Where are your priorities?
What I should have done…
