Oxytocin, is a hormone “the love hormone”, which aside from making us feel good and comforted, also reduces pain, and helps lower blood pressure, anxiety, and levels of the stress hormone, cortisol. So get your snug on! Or hug someone (a friend, family member, pet…), hugs can be just as beneficial! (Do keep in mind we are still in a pandemic, so hug responsibly 😉) BONUS FACT: Oxytocin is also the hormone that stimulates the uterine muscles to contract during childbirth. There is a manufactured/synthetic version called Pitocin, which is used to induce labor or to move labor along when medically necessary.
