Samtember Day 25: Family Recipe/Cooking
This fic is for the @samtember2022 prompt "Family Recipe/Cooking". But it's also a little for myself. Because when high holy days come around like Rosh Hashanah, I tend to reflect on how Judaism is weaved into my existence, the way it adapts and finds a way to work with my life. Though 😂 Rosh Hashanah is about reflection, so it makes sense here. There are a lot of experiences out there, and this fits mine more than what I usually see in portrayals of Judaism in pop culture. Anyway, here's a Rosh Hashanah fic. Enjoy! 🥰
Apples and Honey and Crawfish Étouffée
| Pairing: SamBucky | Rating: G | WC: 1.3K |
Summary: Sam and Bucky wander the grocery store as they get ingredients for tonight's dinner.
Excerpt:
“Are you sure you want to eat this during your New Year?” asked Sam as they wandered through the grocery store aisles, “It is crawfish.” “It’s the family recipe Sarah sent me. I’ve been meaning to make it for you. Why not make it tonight? It’s a special night,” said Bucky as he grabbed the Worcestershire sauce. “It’s shellfish,” said Sam as he grabbed honey before they strolled down to the refrigerated area with their cart, “You understand that crawfish is shellfish, right?” Bucky shrugged. “Yeah, but I don’t really go by the food guidelines. Besides, you’re doing something special for me. I want to make something special that has some of you in it. Start a tradition,” said Bucky smoothly, smiling as he grabbed the good butter and tossed it into the cart. “Crawfish étouffée. Perfect dish for Rosh Hashanah, James,” said Sam as they turned towards the produce section. Bucky laughed. “Like I wasn’t eating pepperoni pizza with you just last night. Bad pepperoni pizza,” said Bucky as he stopped the cart next to the apples.
