thinking about spiderman!makki who gets bitten by a radioactive spider. he was between jobs but now, this is his new job he figures. saving the world, and you of course.
it's late at night when you're walking home after your night classes, deciding to stop by the convenience store that is on the way to grab a couple of snacks to fuel you through your late-night studying. meanwhile, makki is doing his diligent duty of keeping the city safe at night. his legs dangle from the rooftop of someone's house, the cool night breeze brushing across his face with his mask in his hand as he peers down to see what's happening.
he watches you walk out of the store with a plastic bag in one hand and your phone in the other. you're walking with your eyes looking over emails from your professors, reminding you about the essay that is due next week (that you haven't started on, hence the energy drinks in the plastic bag).
you continue to take your usual route back to your apartment, crossing the street but you hear a loud honk coming your way, you turn your head to see bright headlights speeding towards you with no signs of stopping. you try to move but then you feel a tug on your back, and all of a sudden your face in smushed against a sturdy chest. your eyes are squeezed shut because you weren't sure what the hell just happened. you slowly open them, only to see a spider graphic with red and blue surrounding it. with the palms of your hands placed on this mystery mans chest, you push off him to crane your neck up and you are met with a masked face looking down at you. black and red web patterned stretched across the face and down his suit covered body.
your eyes widen and your jaw goes slack. no fucking way you just got saved by spiderman. the spiderman you've seen multiple times on the morning news and the online articles you read. that spiderman.
"are you okay?" he asks, you notice his hand is on the small of your back and he hasn't let go since you crashed into this chest. at a loss of words, all you can do is nod your head.
makki takes notes of your face behind his mask. he can tell you’re frazzled, and usually everyone is when they're saved by him so this is normal. but he thinks your cute and he is so glad that he has a mask on because otherwise you would be able to see his bright pink cheeks that are flushed from being so close to a pretty girl like you.
as you slowly remove yourself from his (muscular) arms he feels empty.
"thank you so much for saving me," you start, he's used to this by now. "i- i wish i could pay you back uh-" you continue, you begin to rummage through your finding from the convinience store, and end up at a pack of cream puffs that took place at the bottom of the bag. you grab them out and hand them to him. "i know it's not a lot but... thank you so much"
he smiles from ear to ear under the mask. but you can see it slightly peeking through and your cheeks turn a little red at him smiling at you. he grabs the cream puffs from your hands, fingers brushing against each other.
"no one's ever done this for me before" he says looking at the cream puffs and then back into your eyes that make his stomach do more flips than when he's jumping from building to building. "thank you."
"of course, i mean it's the least i could do" you reply shyly. voice barely above a whisper because you're still so nervous. "i have to go now, but again, thank you."
"you're welcome. make sure that you're staying safe, can't have a pretty girl like you be in danger." of course he would save you though.
as you walk home with a big smile on your face, and head not on your phone, the words "pretty girl" keeping ringing in your head like a catchy tune.
you weren't going to be able to focus on your homework tonight.
“i love you,” and the clock reads just seven minutes past three in the afternoon. you’re lying beside takahiro, back to him, face to the windows, right when you hear it--again.
“i love you.” and he says it just like that. like he’s reading the time on the clock, or reciting the contents of his grocery list straight from memory. i love you, as a truth he believes enough to remember again and again until it settles with his ordinary.
you don’t freeze, or hold your breath. your thoughts don’t speed up until it hits a thousand miles an hour, and your hands don’t feel clammy as you hold your phone. it’s three o’ eight now, and he knows you’re awake. takahiro rolls over, shuffles around the sheets, sits up, then leans over your form to press a kiss against the side of your temple. phone in hand, you continue to scroll.
he had been drunk last night, slurring his words and bumping into corners. smiling at the sound of your name, then tracing constellations from the random stars up on the ceiling as he fell asleep. last night, he talked about all the reasons why you were the most beautiful. why you were his person. but he never said i love you.
before this, you’ve always carried the fear that all love would ever be is the result of the peak of a hijacked moment--the destination of the high.
through the half opened door leading into the bathroom, you watch takahiro stare at himself at the mirror, clad in just his boxers, with his hand on his stomach as he scratches and yawns. three p.m. isn’t the high. “i love you,” didn’t feel fleeting.
he said it like he was just reading the time on the clock. “i love you,” as something that’s just true and present with the now.
more than euphoric--it feels good. love feels safe. love feels like sober thoughts and honest truths.

PART ONE | PART TWO | PART THREE ?
Oikawa Tooru would never admit it, but he is helplessly in love with you. He isn’t sure why, but this feeling comes in waves. One day it is subtle and stirring in the back of his mind, the others, when your lips collide and your breath is hot on his neck, it’s a tsunami. Now, with your head in his lap, the movie you had chosen plays idly in the background. Neither of you are paying attention-- you’re distracted by his long fingers from one of his hands in both of your own, and Oikawa’s distracted as his free hand runs through your hair. It is a soft moment; Oikawa feels like he’s drowning, but in a way that resembles falling asleep. He knows he has to say it now, to say it first. If he has to find similarities here, perhaps it’s breaking the surface to see the sun above. Perhaps it’s the first breath he’s ever taken, and exhaled with a soft-- “I love you.” You hear him, of course. It’s quiet and lovely and wraps your heart in velvet. You find his eyes, kiss the pads of his fingers to your lips. What is there to say? “I love you, too.” Just like that, Oikawa is drowning in you.
He does not mince words, you know this. Iwaizumi was calm and supportive, even when you decide to get ice cream in the dead of winter. He doesn’t order anything with you, but insists on paying for you. As the pair of you walk idly through a nearby park, he can feel his senses adjusting to you, for the first time in forever. It’s not like he’s never focused on you-- it’s quite the opposite. However, now, with you taking small bites of your mochi and the snow falling into your hair from the looming trees, it’s all he can do to not look at you. He’s distracted by your lips as you speak, your eyes as they convey all sorts of emotions. Iwaizumi can always read you, that’s his strength. But now, at least to you, he doesn’t seem to even be listening to your story.
You stop suddenly on the walking path, and he does, too, though obviously startled. “Are you okay?” You ask. His eyes don’t leave you. “I love you.” He says it like he’s dumbfounded, as if stumbling across an answer he’s been looking for for far too long. You only smile, picking up one of your mochi from its container and putting it between his lips. When he bites down, it’s strawberry. He can’t stop himself from thinking that it matches the taste of your lips perfectly.
It wasn’t like the pair of you were doing anything special. In fact, it was the opposite. The rain had ruined any plan you had of taking your boyfriend out for a picnic, so you were a bit down on the idea of doing nothing. However, when you walk into his house a bit later after Takahiro had offered the idea of just hanging out, you see it. A checkered blanket, a basket. A few bentos and drinks laid out. “Makki? What is this?” You ask, and you can’t stop a smile. “Uh, a picnic?” He says, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “Smartass.” You say, but join him anyways, happy to be doing anything other than the ordinary.
You two talk for a few hours, much longer than you had actually planned. You knew you had homework to do, but it really only felt like minutes. “Hey, I have to tell you something.” Makki doesn’t even look at you when he makes his confession, really. Only a few quick glances your way. “I love you.” You sit there for a moment, face blank. He panics, thinking he’s made a mistake. Maybe you don’t feel the same way? He’s about to backtrack horribly, but then you kiss his cheek. When he finally gets a new view of you, you’re blushing, taking another sip of water. “I love you, too.” He’s never seen anything so lovely.
You never knew how funny Mattsun could be until you started dating. Constant cut-and-dry jokes lead to light-hearted dates. It could be a walk in the park, bike rides, a trip to a convenience store: whatever the situation was, it usually led to more laughs than anything else. His teammates didn’t usually get this side of him, and you know this. It’s a savory feeling that you couldn’t get enough of. He never smiled enough, but now that you two are dating, even Oikawa admitted on more than one occasion that something had changed in him for the better.
Now, as he guides you down a cherry-blossom filled path, he’s oddly silent. “Mattsun?” You say, trying to catch up with the boy’s long strides to get a look at his face. You worry something might be wrong, until he says: “You know I love you, right?” You laugh, and then he stops, turns to you. Mattsun’s eyes are lively, bright. A new emotion. “I tell you I love you, and you laugh?” He’s incredulous, but not angry. You pause, your smile slowly morphing into something slightly more like shock. “You… You’re serious?” “Yes!” He says, throwing his hands into the air as he continues walking. You’re a half step behind him as he laughs. “God, I’ve been working up the nerve all week to tell you that!” You step in front of him, hand on his chest to force him to stop moving. You kiss his lips, smiling. “Mattsun, I love you.” You turn, high-tailing it down the sidewalk. He chases you, arms waving in the air like a madman. “Hey! That’s my line!”
“Koushi, please.” You beg, both his hands in your own. “Please? It’s been forever.” Your boyfriend only laughs. “What? We went out three days ago! Besides, we both know we have stuff to do.” “Do we?” You give him the best puppy eyes you can manage. Something in Suga’s expression alters, his eyes turning soft and melted. He sighs, a small smile appearing on his lips. “I…. uh, fine. But we’ll just get ramen or something, okay?” This changes your frown into a fast and easy smile. You kiss his cheek quickly before continuing on past your house and towards the small ramen shop on the corner before you realize Suga isn’t actually following.
His hands in his pockets, he watches you with a dumb smile on his face that hasn’t gone away quite yet. “Hello?” You say after him, turning on your heels before he finally comes back to his senses to catch up to you. “What was that? Lost in thought?” You ask, laughing. “What? No, it’s nothing. I just love you.” Before you could reply, Suga runs past you to beat you to the front doors of the small cafe. “You what?” You call after him, disbelief all over your features. “Come on! You don’t want your ramen to get cold, do you?” “Suga, it’s a restaurant! It’s not going to get cold!” You chase after him, your heart lighter than it’s ever been.
Perhaps he should have known this already, that you’d be upset. He looks at you stupidly, and you have half a mind to hit his shoulder. You don’t, but God, are you close. “Sawamura!” You whine, and Daichi seems to snap out of it. He isn’t used to you calling him anything but Daichi or any number of pet names. “C’mon, darling. Don’t be so upset. It’s just one grade.” He gently takes the exam from your hands, looking it over. In fact, he isn’t. His eyes glance towards you the whole time, watching as you pull your hair up, run your hands down your face. “What am I supposed to tell my mom? If I don’t pass this class, I…”
“Your mom will understand.” Daichi says, slowly handing the paper back to you. You take it, adding a few creases to its smooth surface. “If it makes you feel any better, I still love you.” He isn’t sure why he chooses then to say it. Maybe he wants to see the frown on your face dissipate. Maybe he just wants to hear you say it back. You look around the empty hallway, and find the pair of you alone, before you turn back to your boyfriend. “How’s that supposed to make me feel?” “Hopefully better?” Daichi asks hopefully, a dumb grin on his face.
You did not want to be sick today. That was easier said than done, however, especially with allergy season on the rise. You hadn’t told Asahi you weren’t going to school that day. In fact, the medicine you had taken early in the morning caused you to sleep through most of the day. You only wake from your sleep when there’s a knock at the door, and you rise groggily to answer. When you do, you see Asahi there, sheepishly holding a bag from Shimada Mart. “Hey, I, uh… brought you some stuff?” It wasn’t a question, but it was sure phrased like one. “Asahi, what are you doing here? How did you know?” He smiles, almost a little embarrassed. Normally he wouldn’t show without at least texting to let you know he was coming over. He’d never actually seen you in anything but casual clothes or your school uniform. Your pajama pants were covered in different dogs, a loose white t-shirt a horrible substitute to your favorite blouse.
“You didn’t answer my texts. Can I come in?” “If you want to get sick, sure.” You open the door for him, and Asahi enters, taking his shoes off at the door. He surveys the couch where you had obviously just been resting. “Go lay down.” He nods towards the living room. “I’ll go make you some tea.” You don’t have the strength to argue. When Asahi returns, two cups of tea in hand, you’re already asleep. He sets the cups down as quietly as he can manage, settling himself in by you. His hand takes your own, and you adjust for it easily, even in your sleep, the back of his hand pressed against your lips. He says it, but there’s no way you hear. Asahi doesn’t mind, though. He can always tell you again when you wake up. For now, he leans back, covers you in a blanket, and settles in for a long evening.
warning ; mentions of relationship failure, and self doubt.
authors note ; for the lovely @pixelwisp, i hope i did your makki brainrot a helping hand ♡

“y/n, i can’t do this anymore.”
“ ... what do you mean you can’t?”
an irritated sigh escaped from the speaker, “you! i can’t be with you! you’re so clingy, and annoying— you want to be around me every second of the day,” the boy screaming on the other end of the phone could be heard clearly by any passing person. “all you do is whine, and complain! i’m done!”
the phone abruptly went dead, and you were left without a chance to retort or defend yourself. not that you would have had the words to speak, as several different waves of emotion hit you all at once. where had it all gone wrong? you thought you could depend on him, and trust him to love you.
he promised that you’d be alright… “but i guess fiction is the only place where happiness gets to survive,” you whispered to yourself, a single tear leaving behind a salty river in its wake.
you weren’t sure what the feeling was, but it left an empty hole in your chest. maybe you had become too dependent, or ‘whiny’ as he had stated. since the volleyball accident, you hadn’t been able to play and were forcefully removed from the team— perhaps that emptiness that filled you to the brim after losing your passion… made you impossible to love.
“maybe he was right… i’m just clingy, and annoying now,” you sunk to the ground, sitting against the cement wall of the school.
“he wasn’t right. you’re none of those things.”
hanamaki towered over you, waiting for you to finally acknowledge his presence after listening to your breakup. he always hated that guy.
“what if i am? you’d never tell me if it was.”
makki sat down next to you, tossing an arm over your shoulder and pulling you closer to him, “you’re right about that, i wouldn’t ever tell you; but only because i don’t think any of it is true.”
nothing more was said as the silence fell between the two of you, while you stared blankly off into the courtyard in your own little bubble; but makki hated the silence.
the strawberry blonde pinched your shoulder, doing his best to get your attention, “you know, i never liked that douche anyways. no one on the team did.”
slapping makki’s hand away, you laughed quietly in acknowledgement. “... i don’t think i liked him either.”
if you had to be honest with yourself, the only reason you were attached to him was because he reminded you of the time where you were thriving and enjoying your time being a part of seijoh’s volleyball team. he was the memory of the best years of your life.
although you had that memory with makki, mattsun, and the others— they couldn’t provide the affection that your now ex once gave.
… the third years should be your happy memory.
pinching you once more, you threw a death glare at hanamaki. “if you pinch me ONE more time hiro, i will get iwa or mattsun to rock your shit.”
“there’s that smile! i knew you were hiding it from me,” makki held his arms out before encasing you into a bear hug, “there aren’t a lot of people like you in the world… you’re one of the strongest people I know. remember that.”
hanamki takahiro was meant to be your happy place.
“... and maybe one day, i’ll show you all the things that he never could.” he kissed your cheek.
literally anything w secret boyfriend makki im begging on my hands and knees
I WILL INDULGE!
Makki doesn’t usually like being secretive with someone he likes. When he loves someone, he wants to boast it. Yell it to the world. To make everyone see how happy he is and that he’s found the love of his life.
Though, that changes when you are unable to do that. You don’t want everyone to know. Whether that be strict parents, school regulations, or otherwise, you reject that idea.
“I..can’t date you, Makki.” Your face falls, and you watch his eyebrows bunch in turn.
“What? Why?”
“Remember what we talked about?”
He pauses, recalling what you told him a few nights before. You both were extremely drunk, and you told him everything. And i mean everything. All cards were laid down on the table for him to pick up easily.
Good thing Makki knew how to survive hangovers when you get that staggered.
“Yeah, I do.” Hanamaki nods, staring at the lollipop in his hand. Cherry. “I have an idea though!” He waves the pop like a wand, back and forth as he speaks.
“Oh?”
He relaxes, knowing you’re interested. A quick slip of the lollipop into his mouth before he pulls it free and speaks. “Yah. How about we just..date in secret, ya know? Like..don’t tell anybody. Keep it on the down low.”
You ponder this, and it makes him anxious.
Seconds, minutes pass before you nod.
“Sure, just don’t open your big mouth.”
He laughs, crunching down on the lollipop before kissing you gently. He pulls you closer as you two press your lips together, and it gradually gets more heated. You feel the pieces of the treat against your tongue in sugar, and when he pulls away you lick your lips.
“Really? What was that, victory make out?”
“Yup!” He laughs, pointing the lollipop stick at you. It’s devoid of any shards that were on their before thanks to the pink haired man’s teeth.
It’s stupid hot where i am right now and i’m just imagining cuddling with makki, sweaty, topless and skin to skin on our couch with the air conditioning barely on because it’s old and we haven’t paid the bills yet. Nothing sexual, just a lazy saturday morning with the love of my life, chuckling at mundane things with my hair tickling his nose. But instead of pushing me away, he holds me closer to his sweaty body to nuzzle his nose into my cheek 😩😭
I just wanna rot into the couch on a saturday morning with him :((((( UGHHHHHHHH
stop i didn’t need this rn. cuddling w makki in the summer heat and your ac is broken bc you forgot to pay the bills last week and your landlord HATES the two of you because you keep getting noise complaints (ifykyk). but lazing on the couch with ice cream in hand in an attempt to cool yourselves down while makki is also fanning you at the same time for being such a good hard working girlfriend (he’s between jobs be so fr) and you’re not one to complain when it somewhat cools you down. the two of you taking turns standing in front of the freezer and in the end ultimately going to mattsun house because his ac is working.
soft, teeny tiny, little hands that hold the petals as if they breathe.
takahiro watches his daughter cradle a rose. yellow leaves for a grandmother she never got a chance to meet, but she still smiles. she sits around roses that bloom in every color of the sunset he first loved you in, and it’s fitting. there’s a dimple on her cheek that only shows when she pouts, just like his, and a dot in between her eyebrows that’s a little too faint to see from a far--just like what you have.
“papa why do we have too many roses?” she asks, her voice soft.
soft hands, soft voice, soft eyes, soft yellow. takahiro remembers you under the colors of sunset, his first born chasing butterflies under the same sky, then looks to his daughter who cradles roses in her hands with petals like the skies.
“remember the stories your mama would tell you?”
and she nods. there was a woman, she recalls. long, wavy hair before the monster with the name that started with “c” took it away. she loved roses despite the thorns, and laid with the earth when her time came. there was beauty from the seed, up to the vines, its thorns, and the petals that would bloom and wilt with the seasons of the year.
“mama always cries.”
“because your mama feels alot of things,” takahiro would explain, and even though more than half the time he’d struggle to find words for her to understand, when she nods at his answer it would always look like she knew more than she let on.
(perhaps she does. perhaps she doesn’t.)
she sits on the counter anyway, roses in her hands, and a smile that looks too much like yours at ease on her face. he looks around the walls, of the photographs that line the wall and remembers you. remembers love. remembers the polaroids you’d keep in your wallet, smiles candid, moments kept.
a random jollibee date at 2 in the morning, spaghetti sauce on his lips and palabok on yours. the sunset with every color that has to do with marmalade and scarlet blanketing the big, wide world, that was kind enough to him and you for moments like these. a flowershop that had more roses than tulips, and a jar with peppermints and chocolate for the kids he knows comes by every afternoon.
your daughter humming the songs he hears you sing to her before she sleeps every night, and her little hands holding the petals like they breathe.
“i think it’s nice that she feels a lot of things,” she finally says.
(and she looks just like you, that takahiro feels his heart soar.)
perfect, perfect you. your citrus perfume, and stories of the woman with the roses that has him yearning to meet a person he knows he can’t.
(but the roses in the morning face him when spring comes, so he supposes it’s her way of saying hello, from the beyond.)
“it is nice,” takahiro echoes, and with a smile, they share the remainder of the afternoon in a makeshift silence. him sweeping from across the room and her, holding the petals and humming your songs. there’s a jingle of the bell, the kids from down the street yelling a hello uncle when they pass by, before you arrive at 5:30.
5:30 and the sky’s so infinite. you say hello, kiss your daughters forehead, soften at the yellow roses, before looking at him, your eyes saying your thanks before your mouth forms the words.
takahiro breathes. with the world, and with the heavens that always watch. the heavens, as the meaning of her name, lani, because he remembers you tearing up at the memory.
“i’m home,” he hears you say, and he knows that every time you say that, something in you heals just a little more.
“welcome home,” he replies all the time, hoping that it would heal just a little bit more.

"don't move," makki murmurs, scooted over from the picnic blanket both of you laid to eat lunch, but now full and warm and under the afternoon sunlight, very sleepy. you're on your belly whilst he's over you, and you distinctly felt a sharp movement on your upper shoulders. "what're you doing, dummy?" "i'm making constellations," makki mumbles, the smile evident from his voice. "lining across your pretty freckles."
