synopsis : a meeting of the internet addicts support group 'Friend of Saul ' held in a church basement . All the characters represent a caricature of an issue for example gambling , pornography , gaming , etc . Every character / song also represents a card from the major arcana tarot deck !

(It is my headcanon that Lady Usher wears a veil and sunglasses to deal with her "family evil". Tucking Roxie in for bed is one of the few moments that the light is low enough to take them off.

I can understand why other productions used a different set for Great Comet, but there's something so perfect about Pierre being in the pitt with the director. He watches as life goes on through a literal barrier between him and the rest of characters, down bellow them. He sees Natasha from afar, listening to her story as it happens but as an spectator, never near her. He only accompanies them from a distance, through his piano, but not with his presence.

When he enters the scene though, everyone notices it. All eyes are on Pierre as he sings and even direct the other characters sometimes still from the pitt. His first attempt to get out, The Duel, ends up with him realizing that he needs that company, to get out, but is not quite ready to do so. In The Abduction, he takes some time to join the others and their celebration, but he ends up fitting and dancing with his fellow man. But in Call to Pierre, he's finally ready to join the action and become a full character, away from the piano and the pitt. I think it's a really beautiful way to show his journey.

ok sorry i can't hold it in - what happened to Velma being plus-sized? i love Rachel Zegler and even Mia Pak who plays Velma in one of the latest productions in the US, but seriously, what happened to plus-sized Velma????

i am aware the role and character isn't just about being fat, and Dave Malloy can do what he wants, but i think it was just such a wonderful role to show off more plus-size queens. like tell me if this is an unnecessary take or something worth considering....

My big thing is why Octet? Of all Dave Malloys shows, Octet feels like the weirdest choice. Great Comet was the most popular, and would lend itself well to a cinematic scope and Three Houses has a really nice richness of imagery that would fit well in film. Octet is very restrained in setting, abstract in imagery and relies so heavily on the 8 person cast that adding any additional character from beyond the support group would break the show. The music has a more diagetic element to it than some of the others (The Forest, Fugue State and Monster in particular) and seeing as everyone is singing, choreography is even more difficult. Then there's Little God. If they try and put it on screen, that's the entire CGI budget gone. And I don't trust them not to try. The story itself I'm kinda excited for though; I love Octet, but I'm interested to see how it's interpreted in film and half a decade later, and it's not going to take the original production away or anything. But the physical production is going to be a challenge. Honestly, the only Malloysical I think would be harder to adapt would be Ghost Quartet, which nobody would attempt thankfully. Even Clown Bible would translate to screen easier than Octet.
