My new favorite wisp family moment post upp 2.4 is Williams dad asking Isaac and Norah with the most deadpan voice “Where’s William.” Mostly because it’s super funny but also because oh em gee…. Subtle implication that William’s parents are super aware at how shady their kid is acting….. like William was JUST pinned down by a doctor who nearly scratched his eyes out, and Mr Wisp asks like he had this Gut Feeling that the moment he took his eyes off of William he was just going to disappear, mildly evidenced by how obviously Mr Wisp Did NOT want to leave Williams side.
Makes me wonder if the anger his mom had at him during 2.1 was partially born from her growing concern over William’s weirdness. His parents so generally much more concerned about him this season and seem to constantly try to keep an eye on him (like asking Norah where he + Isaac and Lui went off to when Norah’s dad comes to pick her up) but they just. Can’t. He keeps slipping away and there’s nothing they can do to convince him to stay in one place. William just keeps brushing them off. He keeps making badly timed jokes (“he read my poetry” William jokes like his mom hadn’t just tried to chase after the grown man who’d lunged at him), bad excuses (see fast talk fumble in 2.1) and evading their concern.
He doesn’t tell his mom why he’s so worried about Isaac, he doesn’t let her know when he’s leaving the house or coming back, he doesn’t communicate with his dad despite how hard the guy tries to make moments between them this season… like it feels like such a big contrast comparing their ‘hospital talk’ in upp1 and upp2. In upp1 William opens up a little, says how happy he is to have his current friends etc, but this time William’s a complete brick wall, using a dumb gag to brush his dad off completely…
