I hate when your manager wants to thank everyone in the team for their hard work, but it was mostly you doing all the work and now other people are getting praise and recognition for your hard work and you just have to stay quiet because you'll be problematic if you bring it up

My boss made the September management schedule and instead of the week off I'd thought I'd gotten, I only got 4 days. Uhm, Sir, excuse me!!!!!!!! But I think I've talked him into changing the schedule. The main issue is we have inventory, and he scheduled the temporary manager to run it with him. This is an issue for a multitude of reasons, including but not limited to: She's an asshole and doesn't respect him, despite the fact he's her boss, therefore she will not listen to him; she's terrible at her job and thinks she's god's gift to earth; I'VE GONE TO AND HELPED RUN FOURTEEN OF THEM IN 2 YEARS.

Like. My guy. We have a system. I get the restructure took inventory off my job description, but you've still sent me to like 4 since then. I practically ran one of them the other week at another store cause the other manager that was there with the GM had no fucking clue what she was doing. I commandeered her associates and her map and just started Doing Stuff. Why, the ever loving FUCK, would you not schedule me for OUR OWN inventory?????

BUT! I pushed him on it yesterday. Cause he doesn't actually WANT this temp manager to work it with him. None of us like her, she was just our only option. So when I said "hey I'm cool with working inventory??? She can work my shift, close, and do some of it so she gets a little experience, you can see how she's closing, and I can help run everything since I've done this a bunch!!!" he was very tempted. He said he'd think about it, and the look on his face when I suggested it said he was genuinely thinking about it. So hooopefully he'll actually Do It.

(its important to note, she's terrible at closing. Doesn't have her priorities straight, barely speaks to customers, makes all of the associates miserable. She also keeps not finishing closing til after everyone else is scheduled to leave, so she just lets them leave and then is alone in the store. Which. You are Very Much Not Supposed To Do. She's well aware of this, because everyone has said something to her. But she just won't listen. So.)

Point is, I'm trying to get a week off before holiday season starts and then I'm stuck working til I collapse every fucking week from October week 2 through to January week 2. I just want some free time dude.

I am drunk at a bar that is also an arcade, peeing out 3 drinks worth of alcohol in the restroom, when I get an ominous text from my husband:

"One of your employees is here."

I, drunk, immediately panic. Which employee? Who is nerdy enough to be here? Surely one of the ones chill enough to not be bothered by seeing me drunk?

When I exited the restroom, I identified the employee standing with my husband and sighed with relief. It was a chill one. We used to be co-workers. I've bought him cases of beer to bring to his housewarming party. He was my wingman at Medieval Times one time on a work trip. He is the Coolest Employee™️

My district manager: we need all the doors closed at all times including the door to the back room and the hallways door.

Us: Tom. Sir. There’s no air flow. It’s literally 84° inside with the door OPEN. it’s too hot! We are literally sweating and the ice machine will break. Again.

District Manager (who never comes to the store for more than 3 minutes): you’re being dramatic. It’s not that bad. Keep the doors closed! It looks better!!! If I come here and they’re open, progressive discipline will occur and I have no problems writing people up.

I opened the damn door and told them idgaf what Tom wants, I’m not passing out at work because it “looks better”. Fuck off.

Also for reference it was 45° outside today. That should tell you how hot that damn store is

I can't sleep. My body aches from the anger and frustration I feel towards the people I work with. I tried to be lenient, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, that they were mature enough to get the job done without letting outside factors get in their way.

I was wrong to do so.

In fact, my leniency has come back to bite me. I didn't want to be the jerk manager and clearly that was a mistake as upper management has now taken note of the lax nature of the staff, the staff that I am in charge of. Human beings are selfish by nature. If you give an inch, they will take a mile and do so without remorse.

Well that's not going to happen anymore. I'm about to unleash the worst side of me, they will hate me and think I am a nazi when all is said and done. I hate that this is what it's come to, but they've left me no choice.

First real manager problem I’ve had to deal with: one employee can’t figure out how to pronounce another employee’s name despite it being pronounced many times. And it’s said the way it’s spelled. Said employee is skirting around this by using pronouns, which is not the WORST way I’ve seen people handle this, but that doesn’t make it great. So we will be having a conversation that is basically, “You need to get comfortable saying other people’s names.” And we’re going to practice it together.

It isn’t your place to say I work too often. At least when I’m at work, I get compensated by the people who WASTE MY FUCKING TIME.
