Their first kiss had been in the dark, stolen in a back alley and muted by storm clouds and shadows. Weiss had been both scared and a little desperate for it, shaking hands clasped with Blake’s firm, dark fingers.
Velvet cat ears had flicked adorably as the rain fell, a few drops at first that leaked out between cracks of thunder to slosh at the girls’ feet. Blake pulled back and grinned, water gleaming on her skin like stars.
Weiss realized belatedly that they were still holding hands, and god, she was staring at Blake like she was starlight. She quickly and clumsily tried composing herself, untethering one hand to reach up and stroke the flicking faunus ear, thumb and forefinger rubbing gently to work the water out of the soft fur.
“Let’s get inside before it really starts coming down,” she suggested, feeling no real desire to leave their secret spot.
Blake brought their hands to her lips, offering her one last kiss.
“Sure, Weiss. Whatever you say.”
That was when Weiss finally noticed: Blake was staring at her like starlight, too.
Any headcanons of our bi mess ™ that is Kimberly Ann hart?
- Most obvious one is that she’s a bi mess for Trini.
- She’s a reckless little shit but she can easily flip it and become a mom friend for the group if she needs to (when Jason the dad of the group needs help).
- She kinda misses her long hair sometimes so when she runs her fingers through it she forgets that it isn’t long anymore until her her fingers reach the end of her hair at her shoulders.
- She has a super messy room with her clothes thrown everywhere which Trini comments on every time she’s there, and she’s there a lot so Kimberly never hears the end of it.
- She kept her cheerleading uniform and when the school asked her to return it she claimed she lost it.
- Listens to all the latest pop hits and more mainstream popular music but she also starts listening to more music that the other four Rangers listen to. Yes that includes heavy metal because of Trini.
- Sometimes teams up with Zack to mess with Trini with pranks and stuff but then she gives in and helps Trini get revenge on Zack because she can’t resist.
- She becomes the one that drives the team everywhere since she’s the only one who’s got a car. She takes over the AUX cord and controls the music in the car even when she’s driving. She swerved a little bit once when she was scrolling through her music library on her phone and not paying attention to the road and now the other Rangers call her out when she picks up her phone while driving. Then she starts passing the AUX cord around so everyone can play their music.
- She actually loves to draw and she’s pretty good at it. Her notebooks are filled with doddle of the other Rangers. She likes drawing Trini’s face because drawing her sharp ass jawline is fun obviously.
- She keeps breaking her phone. Even before she got her Ranger strength she kept dropping it so she’s always got a cracked screen.
- She used to play the piano as a kid and she still remembers a bit so she uses that skill to make Trini swoon.
- She steals everyone’s clothes. She currently has one of Trini’s beanies and one of Jason shirts but Zack is onto her so whenever she borrows his leather jacket when they’re out or when she’s wearing one of his shirts when they’re all hanging out at his place, he always asks for it back.
- She’s super extra and she’ll use every opportunity she can to show off her cheerleading skills by doing backflips or cartwheels. Especially when she’s drunk. Trini loves it obviously.
Freeerburn is still kinda the otp, it’s real perfect. As far as what kind of couple they’d be...the snarks wayyyyy too much at each other and sometimes one of them just needs reassurance that the other still loves them couple.
Bees Schnees is also real good, definitely one of my faves. Imo they’re that really well-adjusted couple you always see in public hustling down the grocery aisle and working well together
In the aftermath of “the conversation”, Weiss noticed Yang’s fingers trembling. Without a word, and not knowing if she was being selfish or selfless, she slipped her hand into Yang’s.
Squeezed once.
Exhaled in quiet relief when Yang squeezed back. She’d done the right thing.
That it brought her some small sense of comfort, too, only made it feel safer. Yang trusted her still, even though when Yang had woken up in the bleak, broken battlefield that had once been Beacon Academy, she’d been alone. Had learned of Blake’s departure through Sun, of Pyrrha’s death through Jaune, of her sister’s unconscious body from Qrow, and of Weiss’s sudden departure–
Weiss didn’t even know who’d told her that. It had happened so suddenly that most students hadn’t even seen. And even Glynda Goodwitch couldn’t argue that Weiss should stay in Vale.
She remembered the hours she’d sat in the broken streets of Vale with Yang’s head cradled in her lap, hands and legs numb with shock. When Sun told her of Blake’s disappearance, Weiss hadn’t even cried. She had no more tears left to give.
Yang hadn’t woken up in time for Weiss to give her a proper goodbye. Ironwood pulled her away, and Yang stayed on the ground, unconscious, unaware that that would most likely be the last time Weiss would ever see her.
There weren’t words to describe the pain that exploded in her skull and against her ribs like nailbombs, tearing at every inch of her.
Now that she had Yang back, she wouldn’t let go for anything.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah. I’m okay.” Yang smiled at her, and weak as it was, it was better than nothing at this point. “I never had the chance to apologize to you.”
Weiss laughed quietly. Right. She’d cut Yang off mid-sentence. Her cheeks flushed, remembering how pathetic that had been, how vulnerable she’d made herself.
How warm Yang was, how tight she’d held her.
Weiss didn’t even know if Yang meant it when she said she’d missed her, or if she was just doing what she always did, and saying what people needed to hear.
“What could you possibly have to apologize for, Yang?”
Yang took her hand back, and the fingers kept shaking when she did. She steadied it with her prosthetic, vibrant hues of yellow complimenting dark black.
“My mother kidnapping you? For not being there for you back in Beacon? For not…being with Ruby right now.”
“First of all, at least two of those three things aren’t your fault, and you know that. As for Ruby, she’s–impulsive. We know that about her. And you clearly needed time. That’s okay.”
Yang wouldn’t look at her, and Weiss felt her confidence withering.
“We’re going to find her now, though. Okay? And we’ll do it together.”
“…right.” She took a deep breath, closing her eyes, and Weiss watched curiously as the shaking in her fingers stopped. “We should get some rest, then.”
“Good idea.” She glanced around at the small makeshift tent with the single cot and the pelt blanket.
Her restraint was really being tested today. Heat pricked the nape of her neck, and she wondered briefly if this was some joke by Raven being played on them.
“You can take the bed, princess.” Yang spoke up before her blush could get any deeper. “It’s a little small, and I know that my mom wasn’t keeping you in comfortable accommodations.”
“Nothing worthy of a Schnee, no,” Weiss teased gently. “But, um, if I take the bed, you can at least have the blanket?” She held out the animal skin, making a face.
“You sure? I keep pretty warm.”
Weiss’s heart thudded hot and loud in her chest. Yes, I know.
“I-I’m sure. I’d feel dreadful making you sleep on the floor without it.”
Yang smiled wryly, accepting the pelt. “Well. I wouldn’t want you to feel that way on my behalf, princess. Thank you.”
At some point in the evening, when Weiss couldn’t sleep from the nightmares, and the cold, she quietly climbed down from the cot and knelt beside Yang. Before she could ask if she was awake, Yang opened her eyes, breathing shaky.
“I couldn’t sleep,” Weiss admitted quietly.
“Shoulda taken the blanket. Wouldn’t be so cold, snowflake.” Yang pulled the pelt up so Weiss could lie down beside her, sparing her from answering any awkward questions. They both knew it wasn’t the weather keeping them awake.
Yang’s arm came down over Weiss, and she cuddled in closer to that heat and warmth, a comfort that only Yang could give her. Tucked under her chin, Weiss found sleep.
Yang didn’t, but the energy blazing in her blood, making her see red all the time, finally subsided. It was the closest she’d gotten to sleep in a long time.

There was a storm outside. Weiss had worried about the storm all evening, because her girlfriend would be driving to her in it, and as far as she knew, her girlfriend only had one very impractical type of vehicle to drive.
But Yang had rolled up to the house in a beat-up old truck instead of her bright yellow motorbike, and was safely inside with Weiss now. The young Schnee heiress tucked herself under Yang, the murmurs of her voice and Yang’s lost between raucous claps of thunder. Spring storms had an oddly soothing effect on Weiss. She’d spent many stormy evenings hidden away at Winter’s home like a stowaway, pretending to run away from her father for a few days.
It was her sophomore year of college, and she’d been dating Yang for more than a year, now. She’d just told him what she herself had learned the previous spring break: Yang had a criminal record.
The talk had gone about as well as Weiss had expected it to, but with Klein’s help and some practiced lies about spending break with Yang, Weiss had made the planned escape to her eldest sibling.
There were still bruises to show across her cheeks and below her clothes, even a set around her wrist, but the general ache of it all had begun to dull down by the time Yang reached the house. King, Winter and Amber’s bloodhound, lay on the floor at the foot of the couch, his ears twitching now and then, and Winter herself had planted herself in the kitchen near the living room, watching her sister with a frown.
Amber hummed, draping an arm around her waist after about ten minutes of that.
“Leave them be, love. Come to bed, please?”
Winter’s rigid form didn’t relax, even when Amber kissed her cheek. “I should be here, just in case.”
“You’ll have to learn to trust Yang eventually. It looks like Weiss may want her around for awhile.”
“I don’t trust anyone with her.” The painful truth of the statement only hit her after she said it, because, hell. That was the truth. She didn’t need to see anyone else take advantage of her little sister after what Jacques put her through.
Amber gently tugged Winter around, urging her down so their foreheads touched. “Hey. She’s going to be okay. She made this choice, and we can respect that. I know you’re worried about her, but she asked for Yang to be here. Watching them like this will just put them both on edge. Let’s put a little faith in her, okay?”
Winter shut her eyes, breathed out slowly. “…okay. Okay, let’s go to bed.”
Amber smiled and kissed the corner of her mouth.
It was hard, being the older sister. But it was made a little easier when she could see Weiss was with someone who loved her with all her heart.
Maybe that would be enough to let the criminal record thing go. Maybe.
