#MONDAYMEMORIES- As 2019 comes to a closure, I want to share an amazing space in (Olneyville) Providence, RI. The Manton Avenue Project!
A place where kids can write and share their story. A place where kids can have fun and feel safe. A place where kids can grow.
I’ve been very fortunate to work at this place. I started off as guest artist to an intern to being a teaching artist for the middle school crew.
On a personal note, MAP kids are one of the reasons I keep doing what I love. When I graduated from college I didn’t know where to go with my acting career. However, teaching at MAP reminded me why I wanted to work for this industry. When I see these kids they remind me of me. I was once that William D’ Abate elementary kid from Providence who’s parents immigrated from another country for a better life and opportunity.
MAP reminded me of play. They reminded me of creating the unthinkable. They reminded me that anything is possible if we work together. They reminded me of where I come from. My true identity.
Many family members, staff, MAP crew, volunteers and students tell me that I’ve made an impact for them but in all honesty MAP kids have made a huge impact on me. They helped me find my identity and purpose when I was in my lowest moments. So to all the MAP middle school crew, Teen Voices and all the MAP kids I say thank you! From the bottom of my heart because of you I continue to love what I do. And because of you I know there is hope for the future. Thank you!
