Sono così in fissa con l'album dei Phoenix che, due notti fa (tornando a casa completamente ubriaco) ho aperto un documento di testo e scritto una sceneggiatura per il video della canzone "telefono" (che avrò ascoltato 170 volte in tre giorni), dove c'è questo ragazzo gay mentre guarda a schermo intero l'oceano su YouTube e parla al telefono (vintage) col suo ragazzo che è andato a girare un film a Hollywood troppo lontano da lui. E poi tante altre cosine fighe che, minimo, i Phoenix appena lo vedranno lo useranno come video ufficiale in tempo zero. Mi sento già in America agli MTV video music awards di fine anno col premio in mano.

Today our stop is in Birmingham, 1851 with another brilliant reprint map by John Tallis & J.Rapkin.

Birmingham is a major city in England’s West Midlands region, with multiple Industrial Revolution-era landmarks that speak to its 18th-century history as a manufacturing powerhouse.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because of that is known as the ‘first manufacturing town in the world’ and was hailed as the 'City of a Thousand Trades’ after it achieved city status in 1889, thanks to the number of businesses that chose to base themselves in the area, largely due to its vast water network.

A highly decorative and finely engraved mid-19th-century map of Germany, 1851, which was engraved by J. Rapkin (vignettes by N. Whittock & J. Hughes) and published in John Tallis. The map show views of Coburg, Dresden, Cologne from the Rhine, the Palace of Saxe-Coburg (birthplace of Prince Albert), Martin Luther’s house in Frankfurt, silver mines in the Hartz mountains and a triple portrait of Guttenburg, Faust and Schoffeer, the ‘inventors of printing’.

The Ottoman Empire was one of the mightiest and longest-lasting dynasties in world history. This Islamic-run superpower ruled large areas of the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and North Africa for more than 600 years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Finally, after fighting on the side of Germany in World War I and suffering defeat, the empire was dismantled by treaty and came to an end in 1922, when the last Ottoman Sultan, Mehmed VI, was deposed and left the capital of Constantinople (now Istanbul).

Turkey was declared a republic on October 29, 1923, when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (1881-1938), an army officer, founded the independent Republic of Turkey. He implemented reforms that rapidly secularized and westernized the country.

At its height, the Ottoman Empire, centred in Istanbul, stretched from the Crimea to North Africa, but by the mid-nineteenth century, it was crumbling.
Russia had gained significant areas north of the Black Sea, including the Crimea (now part of Ukraine), in the years around 1800.
In June 1853 Tsar Nicholas I invaded the Ottoman territories to the west of the Black Sea: the principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia, outlined in green on the map. After failed international attempts at diplomacy, Turkey declared war on Russia on 4 October 1853.

One of my favourite cities and places to visit is Edinburgh, always strikes me with its beauty.

I never get tired of climbing the cobbled streets of the Royal Mile in the Old Town and admire the grand Gothic landmarks. Its architecture is both staggering and stunning.

The best time for me is during the summer when the city comes alive with music and art during the Fringe Festival.
