NMP As I wish to create a portfolio of my work which I intend to take and show to potential employers, I will need to carefully consider the contents of this body of work. Having spoken with my tutor Tim about my ideas, he prompted me to search and find what is new and exciting about tattoo artwork, and the boundaries that are being pushed already, and what I can do to extend that within my own work. I have been thinking and I can think of a million artists that I could put here, but I am starting with Mara Den's work. The reason for this is it is completely unique. The misleading thing about traditional tattooing is it has certain rules - and certain imagery has become associated with that label over the years. What I find great about Mara's work is that they push boundaries and are not afraid to step out of the box. The sharp definition of the shape of these images is what makes them unique, as it is reminiscent almost of cubism by separating the components of each subject. The colour scheme although striking is not one that is new, what is new and clever is the way they have decided to place the colour in these images. Strange composition of their subject matter is also striking, combining shapes into a design is becoming more popular, but you don't usually see planets emerging out of a woman's head..
