ABOUT MIA
Mia is a very sweet cat who loves to be held. She would make a lovely lap kitty.
She is FIV positive, so she should be in a home with no other cats. She would love to have a forever home.
Sycamore Hills Gardens in Marcellus, NY is a nearly 40 acre private garden open to the public several weekends a season for Central New York not for profit fundraisers. I've posted a few photos to give you a TINY sense of what you can see at the Gardens. The large tree by the private home is ... surprise ... a Sycamore Tree! It was growing before the American Revolution started in 1776. The grounds have a huge pond, lots of flowering trees, flowering gardens, statues and even a maize. http://www.sycamorehillgardens.com/about-2/
Can't sleep during Sandy? Blog about this past weekend!
This is *really* long, so here's a break...
When we got there I had to remake my swords (I *finally* managed to wreck them after 9 months) and missed ditching. Honestly though, I'd rather have missed ditching and been definitely able to participate in quest than potentially hurt myself (which always seems to happen during ditch) and/or not have swords. And at the same time as remaking my swords I got some wonderful chatting in :) .
Quest was wonderful. It was well thought out and planned and worked wonderfully with how many people they had. The premise was that there was a missing recluse druid and little magic rocks scattered throughout the forest were available for trade with a merchant in the village.
We made friends with the giant who was friends with the missing druid and he helped us with the bear, eagle and wolves that were plaguing the forest. I got some really good shots in and was proud of myself (minus the one head shot, I aimed a little too high for us standing on almost even ground, I was still in 'aim up a hill' mode). We went and got some amulets at the market with the stones we found.
I missed it, but for some reason the giant went crazy and started attacking us, so we had to kill him. In his treasure we found a map and a wand and more shiny rocks, as well as some bling I think. Then we went to follow the map and found a centaur and got attacked by Orcs. I was the only person of the first party to survive the orc attack. And trying to keep people from insulting the centaur was definitely interesting. There was another orc attack and I died during that, as did the centaur because a newly alive person didn't know he was with us.
I went back to nirvana for my death count so that I could relax from running like a crazy person from the orcs. While I was there I ended up entertaining a six year old girl for a while. She played with my hair, asked me questions and told me that I was really cool. She's too cute.
When I got back to the group, they had defeated the orcs who had killed me, found the missing druid and un-petrified her. We then encountered a village of orcs and an ogre. This was the hardest part of the quest for me. Although I can sprint pretty well, sprinting on a hill with a disabled ankle and being out of shape, well, it's not the best thing for a person. I held out for two waves of orcs, but I got caught between the new waves of orcs and the ogre that wouldn't die and so I died eventually. As an example of how tired this hill fight made me, I literally plopped down in the grass because I couldn't see straight...things to work on this winter I think.
After a little bit where we came back to life and I caught my breath (everyone in the party waited for me to be okay to fight again), we got to go back to the village, which was now completely silent and basically dead. We found another petrified woman who pointed out the final boss, which was a Mine Flare? Mind Flare? Some big tentacle squishy mind control thing that comes from either Dark or Demon Souls, among other things. It ended pretty quickly after that. We, unfortunately killed some of the villagers, but we didn't know they were being mind controlled.
It was fun. Oh, and did I mention that the same person played the giant, centaur, ogre and final boss? Yeah. He earns major kudos credits in my book. He is awesome.
Feast was good. Sat between the guys I brought (James and Dustin, Dustin's first event ever!) and across the table from two guys from Caradoc (Rochester. Gratus and Julian) and a Crown/Sword knight from Goldenvale (Sanchez). Dinner is never dull with a wonderful conversationalist who is actually interested in what you're saying (Gratus) and two Omega members (Julian and Sanchez).
After feast there was cupcakes for desert and pumpkin painting. And, because Julian brought it up, a discussion about making a New York principality (baby kingdom, kinda). I, being me, turned over my bingo board and picked up my marker and took notes :D . It was definitely interesting listening to people's input, devil's advocate questions, and replies.
On the way home we stopped in Rochester to see Maria. But I already blogged about that :) .
Overall, I was completely okay with how this weekend went. Completely.
