Who     said “I love you” first

Quentin. Hedoesn’t even mean to, he doesn’t think about it. It just kind of spills out ofhis mouth one night after a long day. He’s exhausted and all he sees is Pennywaiting up for him and all he can think is ‘I love you’. Except, he’s so tiredthat he doesn’t think it, he says it. He’s immediately embarrassed and startsstuttering around an explanation and Penny just rolls his eyes and tellsQuentin he’s tired and they need to go to bed. It’s not until several weekslater when Penny looks at Quentin and apropos of nothing says “I love you, too.”

Quentin. Technically it’s a pictureof him, Penny, Eliot, and Margo but Penny is the only one without apps coveringhis face. It’s pretty obvious that Quentin spent a fair amount of time movingthe apps around to make sure Penny’s brooding face was visible. When called outon it he claims that’s just how the apps were arranged naturally. Eliot is theonly one bothered by this and the only one who calls him out on it because “That’sa really good picture of me and I don’t deserve to have my face replaced withSoundcloud.”

Penny. Theyaren’t, like, sweet little love notes or anything. They’re notes writtenbackwards that say shit like “Help, I’m trapped in the mirror” and “Stopignoring me” just because he thinks it’s fun to fuck with Quentin. Except Quentindoesn’t mention it and Penny waits for days for Quentin to say something.Eventually, Penny starts to see that Quentin has started writing notes back inthe mirror to the mirror person. Penny keeps up the prank for weeks beforefinally admitting to Quentin that he’s the one leaving the messages in the mirror.Quentin is only confused because he knew it was Penny, he just thought theywere playing a game.

Penny. Buthe doesn’t frame them as gifts. Usually they’re stupid things from a movie heand Quentin watched or really stupid coffee mugs (including one he found thatsays ‘Hogwart’s Best Professor’ and a ‘World’s Okayest Boyfriend’ mug.). Pennydoesn’t actually spend time actively looking for these things, but when he seessomething stupid that reminds him of Quentin he buys it and leaves it layingaround for Quentin to find.

Who     initiated the first kiss

Penny. I’vedefinitely written about this before but fuck you this is my answer and I’mgoing to write it again. They hadn’t been on a lot of dates and Quentin wasstill incredibly nervous, not knowing whether or not Penny liked him or if thiswas all part of some elaborate joke. He didn’t want to make the first move forfear of mockery. What Quentin didn’t realise was that Penny was feeling thesame way. Penny didn’t want to get too attached and find out that Quentin wasjust making fun of him. So, neither one of them was willing to kiss first.Until Quentin’s wards started to leak during a daydream about kissing Penny.His wards had gotten better after practise but there were still some momentswhere he wasn’t thinking and he let things slip out. So, Penny happened to walkin during Quentin’s little fantasy and it was broadcast into his brain in fullHD. Penny walked over, held Quentin’s chin, and kissed him for the first time.

Who     kisses the other awake in the morning

Penny. Quentinis usually the last one awake, probably because he’s more of a night owl andstays awake reading. Penny, on the other hand, enjoys the quiet of morning. Helikes to be awake before everyone else because it gives him time to mediate inpeace and not have to see other people. Usually, Quentin is awake by the timePenny is finished meditating. Some days Penny lets him sleep, other days helays on top of him and kisses his neck until Quentin finally wakes up and Pennytells him to go brush his teeth before they kiss anymore.

Who     starts tickle fights

Penny. But,to be fair, it’s only because Quentin says he isn’t ticklish. It’s obviously alie and Penny gives Quentin a chance to tell the truth. When Quentin doesn’t,Penny holds him down and tickles him. It turns surprisingly violent. Quentinaccidentally elbows Penny in the eye while trying to squirm off the sofa,leaving a small bruise. Penny claims it’s a small price to pay for catching Quentinin a lie.

Who     asks who if they can join the other in the shower

Well,Quentin is the one that asks. Penny doesn’t ask, he just gets into the showerwith Quentin, occasionally accidentally scaring him when Quentin’s eyes areclosed and he’s washing his hair. Penny doesn’t sneak into the shower everytime. Sometimes he senses that Quentin wants to be alone and leaves him be.Quentin is a little more polite about it, not catching onto the fact that whenPenny announces that he’s taking a shower it’s an open invitation to join. Healways asks, which Penny finds awkwardly endearing.  

Who     surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch

Penny. Quentinhas a tendency to forget that food exists when he’s working and tends to runoff of cold coffee and  exhaustion. Pennywill let this go until he notices that Quentin hasn’t been eating and then hesurprises Quentin with fast food or, on occasion, a home cooked Penny Meal™.Penny Meals™ are always really odd and don’t look like actual food, but they’resurprisingly good and definitely some of Quentin’s favourites. He names all ofthe dishes, like Penny Pancakes or Salty Sandwich (which is a potato chipsandwich with a carefully concocted hot sauce).

Who     was nervous and shy on the first date

Both ofthem. Quentin was more obvious about it, stuttering over words and constantlyasking Penny if he was sure about this. Penny acted like he was relaxed,rolling his eyes and telling Quentin to calm down, it was just dinner. Inside,however, Penny was a complete mess of nerves. He was pretty sure that Quentinliked him but a part of him refused to believe it. He kept thinking about howQuentin could definitely do better and wondering  why Quentin had even agreed to this in thefirst place.

Who     kills/takes out the spiders

Quentin.Penny isn’t exactly afraid of spiders(or so he claims); he just doesn’t trust anything with that many legs. He doesn’tmind them as long as he doesn’t have to touch them or see them or acknowledgethat they exist in any way. To get them away Penny sprays them down with axe orthrows books at them. Quentin usually stops him before he kills the spider.Quentin scoops the little guy into his hand or brushes it onto a sheet of paperand releases them outside while explaining the benefits of spiders. Penny callsevery spider Shelob.

Who     loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk

Both ofthese dorks do it. Quentin had a tendency to flop onto Penny’s lap and look upat him, poetically expressing how much he adores Penny in a way that only drunkpeople can. Most of this just includes Quentin talking about how lucky he isand how this is the happiest he’s ever been followed by him touching Penny’sface and saying “I like your beard”. Penny is the one to announce to the room that he loves Quentin, followedby him looking down and saying “I hope no one heard that”.

PENNTIN!!

Sorry this took so long! I was gathering up my motivation to actually do things xD Anyway, this is one of my favourite ships and is always one of my favourites to do.

·        who hogs the duvet

Atfirst it’s Quentin. He tends to roll and flop around at night, rolling himselfinto a happy, blanket burrito. It doesn’t bother Penny because the weather iswarm and he can deal with it. In fact, he gets hot at night anyway. Then winterhits. Penny, having grown up in Florida, isn’t used to the upstate New Yorkcold and ends up stealing all of the blankets, hiding underneath them and stillfreezing. He ends up wrapped up  in aboutfour blankets, refusing to share.

·        who texts/rings to check how their day is going

Quentin.He often worries that he’s being annoying or obnoxious, but he knows that Pennywon’t text him first. He also knows that something is wrong if Pennyimmediately texts him back, even if Penny immediately texts back something like‘fine’. It always takes at least seven minutes for Penny to text back and ifthe response is instant then Penny is in trouble.

·        who’s the most creative when it comes to gifts

Penny.He isn’t exactly good at getting gifts, but he is pretty creative. He knows howto get something amazing for cheap and how to make amazing things out of cheapthings. Penny is always really good at finding the weirdest shit. For example,he and Quentin watched A Christmas Story and within three days Quentin had his veryown Leg Lamp.

Penny.Quentin can sleep through absolutely anything. Penny doesn’t even have to worryabout being quiet in the mornings. Quentin likes sleeping in when he gets thechance. Penny tends to wake up early and sleep lightly. Any small noise willwake him up.

Penny.Quentin wants to and sometimes will let his wards down if he really, reallywants to try something but doesn’t want to say it. Penny is a bit more, well,he’s been around the block a few more times than Quentin has. He knows a littlebit  more and is able to open Quentin up to different things.

Penny.He doesn’t like for anyone to notice or see and he tries really hard to hideit. Quentin doesn’t mention it and just holds a little tighter to Penny’s handwhen it happens. He knows that Penny would immediately kill him if he were topoint it out. Penny completely denies it, saying whatever movie they watchedwas stupid and he hated it.

Quentin.He doesn’t even think about it and he just really likes touching. Soft, gentletouches that turn into massages. A lot of the time it’s just a simple handmassage when Penny’s hands are cramping from practising spells. Sometimes heuses massages to calm Penny down when he’s stressed out or when he’s havingtrouble falling asleep. Quentin isn’t actually very good at giving massages andit’s sometimes a little awkward, but Penny still lets him do it because heknows that it calms Quentin down a little.

·        who fusses over the other when they’re sick

Quentin.Penny doesn’t like sick people and he’s a bit awkward around them. He alsodoesn’t like being sick at all and says constantly that he’s fine while he’sclearly on the verge of death. Quentin has to convince him to lay down andmakes him soup, then he gets Eliot  tomake soup because Eliot is a better cook than he is.

·        who gets jealous easiest

Penny.Almost everything he’s had that he’s liked has been taken away. He’s never livedin the same place for more than a few months and he’s never had a real familybefore. Any time someone is nice to him he thinks it’s a trap and expects themto leave him. He’s also never really had friends before. He’s incrediblyjealous of Quentin’s friends and wonders, frequently, if Quentin like them morethan him.

·        who has the most embarrassing taste in music

Quentin.He’s not ashamed of it, not really. He likes what he likes and pop music isreally catchy. Any time Penny points out that it’s lame Quentin is just like “Youimmediately knew who it was after just one verse so obviously you listen to ittoo.”

·        who collects something unusual

Quentin.And it’s not exactly weird, but Penny thinks it is. It’s just copies of thesame book and Penny doesn’t understand why Quentin needs so many. Quentin triesto explain that some are first edition, some are alternate covers, one is inFrench, and technically even though they’re the same they’re all different.Also he has the copy that he reads and then a backup copy in case somethingwere to happen.

·        who takes the longest to get ready

Penny.Quentin basically just needs to put on shoes and he’s fine. Sometimes a coat ora light jacket, depending on the weather. Penny cares a lot more about his appearancethan he lets on. That ‘woke up like this’ look takes a lot of effort.

·        who is the most tidy and organised

Penny.Quentin is okay with things being a little disorganised. He can work around it.Sometimes he gets so caught up in what he’s doing that he doesn’t realise hispapers are all over the desk and he’s been drinking cold coffee. He getsfocused and makes a mess of his work whereas Penny needs to focus only on what’sin front of him. If there’s too much going on he’ll get distracted.  

·        who gets most excited about the holidays

Quentinon Penny’s behalf sort of. He realises pretty quickly that Penny doesn’t haveany typical holiday traditions or anything like that. In fact, they spend oneThanksgiving in a hotel room eating food from 7-11 because that’s what Pennynormally did. Quentin takes it upon himself to make the holidays good for Pennyand to start new holiday traditions, one of which is getting food from the 7-11on Thanksgiving.

·        who is the big spoon/little spoon

Pennyis the big spoon and Quentin is the little spoon. Penny likes that he can protectQuentin at night and hold onto him. He also likes it because when he wakes uphe doesn’t have to worry about sneaking out from under Quentin’s arms.

·        who gets most competitive when playing games and/or sports

Neitherof them are particularly competitive. If it’s just a game then they’re bothfairly laid back about it. Neither one of them sees a reason to put too muchenergy into something that doesn’t matter. Now, if they start betting, thenPenny can be competitive. They never bet money because that’s too boring.Rather, they bet activities and chores and, occasionally, positions. Preferringto be on top, Penny gets especially competitive when they bet anything evenremotely sexual.

·        who starts the most arguments

Penny.He doesn’t even mean to, but he says what’s on his mind and sometimes it isn’tthe nicest thing ever. He doesn’t realise what he says has come off asaggressive or rude until it’s already out of his mouth and he’s really bad atapologising. So, he just sticks with it and digs himself into a deeper hole, continuingto argue long past a time when he should have stopped.

·        who suggests that they buy a pet

Quentin.Penny would like to remind him what happened the last time Quentin was near apuppy and that usually ends the conversation right there. It’s also difficultto find a pet that Penny isn’t allergic to. He’s highly allergic to cats andslightly allergic to dogs, so both of those are out. Eventually, they settle ongetting a fish. He’s a little reddish coloured Beta that Quentin names Caesar.

·        what couple traditions they have

I don’tknow if it would be considered a tradition or not, but any time they’refighting and Penny knows he’s wrong he goes out and buys Quentin food. Heleaves it on the table for Quentin to find instead of saying that he’s sorry.Usually it’s something sweet and chocolate, something that Quentin wouldn’t buyfor himself to eat but more like a nice little treat. It’s how Penny says ‘sorry’without actually having to say those words.

·        what tv shows they watch together

Quentinreally likes watching Penn and Teller’s show ‘Fool  us’ because he likes seeing if he can figureout how the tricks are done when they watch it. Penny is convinced thateveryone on that show is actually a Magician because he can’t figure it out, evenwhen Quentin explains it.

·        what other couple they hang out with

Kadyand Julia. It’s a bit difficult sometimes because Penny knows that he has someunresolved feelings for Kady, despite the fact that he wouldn’t leave Quentin.He still appreciates her as a friend, but sometimes he has to remind himselfthat they aren’t together and sometimes it’s hard for him. Quentin knows thisand knows can understand Penny’s feelings on it and why it’s difficult for himto see her. Still, Quentin likes hanging out with Julia and talking abouteverything and nothing with her.

Pennyreally likes sitting there and listening to Quentin just talk. Quentin isincredibly passionate about things and, although he won’t attempt it, that’sPenny’s favourite thing about him. When Quentin cares he cares with all hissoul and it’s adorable to watch him go off on a tangent about something. Theyspend a lot of their time studying and reminding each other that breaks are athing they need to take. Penny spends a lot of time just listening to  Quentin and rolling his eyes, affectionatelycalling him a dork.

TechnicallyPenny but it was Quentin’s idea. Quentin was thinking about it and Penny actedon it. If that makes any sense whatsoever. It was very much both of them.Quentin was thinking about Penny, just absently daydreaming and having a ratherembarrassing daydream about what it might be like to kiss him. This was at a timewhen Quentin’s  wards were still ratherleaky so Penny got this daydream in full HD. After a few minutes he interruptedQuentin’s thoughts by kissing him, rather aggressively, and telling him tolearn to keep his mind shut.

Quentin.It brightens up the room and he likes them. Penny never comments on them butQuentin does notice that Penny always smiles when he sees them. So, Quentinstarts bringing them in more often on his way home whenever he knows that Pennyis having a bad day.

 Penny.He grew up learning to cook for himself and can cook. But his food is always alittle weird because, well, he taught himself. He makes something called ‘PennyPancakes’ which are regular pancakes with bacon in them that are topped withbananas. Quentin absolutely loves them even though they’re kind of weird.

 Julia.But it’s completely by accident. See, Kady gets hot at night and kicks theblankets off, leaving Julia to cuddle in them and wrap them around herself.Then she wakes up, cold, and has to tangle Julia so that she can have blankets.

 Julia.Even if she’s the last one in bed at night she’s the first one up in themorning. She’s got shit to do and sleeping takes up too much time.  Itdepends on the movie. Julia cries when the dog dies in movies and during movieswhere someone passes away after a long battle with illness. She also happycries at the end of animated movies and hopes that no one notices. Kady criesduring romantic movies and tries to hide it or makes up an excuse to go to thebathroom so Julia doesn’t see her tearing up.

 Kady.When Julia is reading or working Kady comes up behind her and starts rubbingher shoulders until she relaxes.  Julia.Kady assumes people want to be left alone when they’re sick and, also, shedoesn’t want to catch whatever someone else has. She’ll be there, but she’s notgreat with illness. She makessure Kady takes the proper dose of medicine (as Kady will occasionally justdrink half a bottle of cold medicine and declare herself to be fine.).

 Kady.One of her secret favourite artists is Kelly Clarkson. She watched AmericanIdol in a hotel room they lived in when she was younger and she just got kindof attached. She liked Kelly’s story and her music and she still listens to herwhen she’s having a bad day.

 Julia.It’s insects. It started when she was younger. She has shadow boxes ofdelicately places and labelled insects and arachnids. Kady thinks it’s a  bit creepy but she supports Julia,occasionally bringing her strange insects she’s found for her collection.

 Kady.Mostly because she procrastinates. She doesn’t want to get into the shower,then she doesn’t want to get out, then she doesn’t feel like getting dressed orfussing with her hair. These things just take too much effort and she delaysthem for as long as possible.

 Julia.Mess is too distracting. Kady is the type to leave coffee cups around her workspace and works better in  clutter. Kadyis used to clutter and chaos, Julia isn’t. Messes make things overwhelming andthere’s too much going on. Everything has to be a certain way or working andstudying become difficult.

 Kady.She didn’t always. Usually the holidays were just another day and she didn’treally celebrate. Hell, she never had anyone to celebrate with. Her mothertended to forget her birthday and big holidays were always ignored. With Juliait’s different. She has a family and someone she can share the day with. It’snever big or fancy or overly exciting, but Kady did get to decorate her firstChristmas tree with Julia and felt like a little kid.

 Kadyis always big spoon. Julia is small and likes to be cuddled. Kady likes holdingher tightly and knowing she’s there, knowing she can’t slip away.

 Julia.She grew up competing academically and every game is very serious to her. Shereally likes playing bridge even though Kady doesn’t entirely understand therules of it.  Julia.She doesn’t mean to but occasionally she overreacts too things that Kady saysor takes things too personally. Kady doesn’t like to argue and only does itwhen Julia is exhausted but refuses to go to bed. They don’t often fight andwhen they do it’s usually easily resolved once they calm down.

Kady.Except, she doesn’t so much suggest it as she does….bring a pet home. Juliacomes home to a cat just in the apartment. It was homeless and tiny and Kadydidn’t think it should be on the street like that, so  she brought it in. It takes a while for Juliato calm down over the random stray cat showing up, but she eventually grows tolove him. Even if he is the ugliest cat she’s ever seen in her life, Kady loveshim and they saved him together.

 Tuesdaynight movies and sushi. It’s the one time when they actually stop what they’redoing and make themselves take a break. It was Kady’s idea when she realisedthat Julia had never seen Young Frankenstein and they watched it together. Thenit became a regular Tuesday night occurrence with them settling in and watchinga movie, switching off who picks the movie each week,

 Theydon’t really have time to watch television. Occasionally they’ll binge watchLaw and Order when the other is sick and have officially  seen every episode of SVU. Late at night whenthey’re working they’ll turn on X-Files or Twilight Zone to play in thebackground, sometimes getting caught up in the show and forgetting to work.

 ·        what other couple they hang out with

 Okay,you knew this was coming. You know me, you’ve seen my URL, you’ve seen me postshit. Obviously they occasionally hang out with Penny and Eliot. Penny stilllikes talking to Kady and there are still some feelings there and it gets hardsometimes, but he likes her as a person and misses talking to her. Eliot andJulia are both really good at bridge and like to play together.

 Mostlyreading or working on magic. Their cooperative spells are amazing and they lovelearning and practising together. They don’t really go out much, neither ofthem really having an interest in shopping or going to wine tastings. They liketo stay at home most nights. Sometimes Julia reads Kady her favourite poemsuntil she falls asleep. Kady likes to make up stories to tell Julia aboutfantastic adventures int eh Great Unknown.

 Julia.It wasn’t exactly on purpose and neither of them really thought about it. Theyjust started growing closer and everything happened so slowly they didn’t evenrealise their feelings were changing. Then one day Julia just kissed Kadygoodnight without thinking. There was a long pause and a few seconds whereneither of them moved or said anything. Then Kady kissed her back.

 Kady.She doesn’t know the names of the flowers (and sometimes the flowers areactually weeds) but she picks up any yellow flower she sees because she knowyellow is Julia’s favourite colour. She learns that Julia especially likessunflowers and starts getting her those. Then later she finds out that Juliadoesn’t actually like cut flowers, she doesn’t like watching them die. So, shestarts taking Julia on walks through gardens instead, especially on days where Juliais feeling bad. They’ll casually go stroll through a garden, looking at theexotic and foreign plants with Julia pronouncing their Latin names perfectly.

 Julia.She bakes bread and makes homemade pasta and desserts. Kady is really good atfoods that needs to be microwaved but not so great with a stove.
