I feel like everyone's personalities/defining characteristics peaked in the first two seasons (except Jackson's, he's going strong tbh). but . . . the weird thing is, I'm not really complaining? I think it's a unique and interesting way of story writing (even if it is just inconsistent writing on Paola's part), intentional or not
Exer - He was a confident and sassy teen, top of his class (iirc), would say "ain't" instead of "isn't/am not/aren't", would be protective over his friends/people he cares about, and didn't want people to fuss over him. But now, in season three, he's kind of a pushover. And it sometimes makes sense, like he's afraid to stand out again. I do wish that he had some of those characteristics still though
David - This one's pretty clear. Bright and sunshine-y -> got abused mentally/physically/emotionally -> no longer like that, but he's getting better. And it's shown really well, even if it's not in every episode. Which, honestly, is better because like it or not he is not the main character. He's part of the supporting cast, yet he still gets his own story and it's important to the main plot. I love that
Brenda - On the surface, yes she does seem the same, but I feel like she's not as dramatic as before. She's been dimmed down but I can't quite put my finger on as to why. anyways kind of off topic but I need more scenes of her with Pamela (because they've been BEST FRIENDS for a LONG time) and Jolie (because yeah). I feel like she's somehow been made into an easier-to-swallow character now and it makes me a bit sad
Pamela - Mixed feelings about her arc, but I love her. She's not as sarcastic as before. Actually not at all. She's just another sunshiney character now, which is the complete opposite as the first season. Even in season two she seemed kind of mellow at times, or more serious at least. "Bring back S1 Pam!!" I shout. But then I remember she has more than one friend now, she has support and she gives love back. the bullies can't get to her. of course she's happy now. (I just need one scene of her reading tarot cards or something because she needs more personality other than jackson's badass girlfriend, and Exer's and David's occasional therapy friend)
Ronald - I think he's one of the least changed, I just wish he'd bribe people for food with gossip more often. Also what happened to his scare factor? bring back scary Ronald!! and his love for raspberries!!
Ken - He used to be so much more dramatic in his silly antics. 'nuff said.
Jolie - Just another head on the three-headed detention kid therapist, apparently. although she does have good style and I WISH THAT WAS BROUGHT UP MORE OFTEN! (<- btw fp foreshadowing. just a bit) Also a scene where she helps out her mom in the cafe and bonds with exer a bit would bring me immense joy and heal me so good and well. because it's clear she is a guy's girl and exer is a girl's guy and I think they would be absolute BEST FRIENDS if you give them a chance. and I need a scene that's just. her. no one else
Timothy - love that he has a personality at all even if it seems a bit plain at times. also I want to see him practice some actual Russian ON SCREEN. bilingualism for the win!! and I want it to be mentioned that he's transgender at some point, we need some outright representation. I think his character has stayed pretty consistent actually lol
Ricky and Marty - THEY NEED TO STOP HARASSING GIRLS, PERIOD. I do like their ship but jfc they deserve some jail time. they've stayed practically the same. how unfortunate.
Mariah and Norman (and co.) - Idk. I like the little jokes and stuff with them in the background and the weird rivalry that Mariah and Norman had going on, but where did that all go in the third season? What are they
Harry - Why is he silly now what happened to the mature and responsible adult? truly blending into the background
Christine - kind of the same as Harry
Mr. Principal and Ms. Wendy and Ms. Breanna and Coach - eh they're the same, but I wish they'd bring back the shenanigan of the principal getting coffee spilled on him like in season one. big funny. also WHERE IS MS. BREANNA?? HOMEGIRL DISAPPEARED??
Kevin - Honestly did not expect him to show up in season three (or ever again) and so that was amazing story writing, I love you Paola. And his personality/characteristics are basically the same flavor that they were in the season two flashback? so evil. love that. I need to rip his limbs off one by one.
The gay simp in the background of season one - bring him back.
Lucy-furr - she's just a kitty. (Also does no one else have a pet cat? I feel like Tim or Ken would, but NOTHING? not a dog or hamster? what) love how the cat also got a character arc. I think she peaked in season three tbh, which is just awesome. badass cat
Lucy the assistant - bring her back.
W*ll*am - send him to jail. he's unfortunately stayed the same during the entirety of the webtoon, but luckily he has not made a physical appearance in season three otherwise I would be writing 10 paragraphs in descriptive detail of how to torture him. not just for David but also because I need to take my anger out on something soon or I'm gonna crash out through my window.
Linda - WHERE IS SHE? DOES SHE KNOW? DOES SHE CARE? bring her back
Carol and Frank - I think they've also been mellowed out, but they're cute nonetheless
Elijah - he's literally a fresh from the womb character, so yeah his character is consistent
Haru and Mai - same as above
Cup o Cat staff - All they talk about is dexer and it seems like they're literally just the fandom. where is greedy money-maker dylan? where is Bailey talking about her son? Marco and his care for his sister? Ms. Sea talking about her daughter?
- Where did Pamela's parents go, are they just not important at all right now? What's happening in each characters' home lives?
Jackson's mom - nothing from me just the lip bite emoji. also the fact that each flashback/memory/dream with her seems to accumulate more people. (episode one: just her and Jackson. season two: she turned into Harry lmao?? season three: Jackson's grandma is there too, but also kind of NJ as well? idk. something to take note of, I guess) AND in the memories she gains more personality in general
tl;dr/in conclusion
I feel like the supporting cast (Mostly the DKs, Pam, Brenda, David, and Ron) has gone from individuals with unique characteristics and flaws to literally only being supportive. It makes sense with their character arcs and all, so it seems intentional that this season will be almost purely focused on Jackson's inner conflict but I really want smth besides a walking-talking book and a love triangle.
yikes that was long, i'm sorry-
