On/kunst

On/kunst have asked me to give a mini-lecture on conceptual art. Theme of the evening: ‘Begrijpt iemand hedendaagse kunst nog wél?’ (Is there anyone who still understands contemporary art?). The event will take place on February 14 at LAB111, Amsterdam. Can’t think of a more romantic way to spend Valentine’s. 🌹

FULL MOON: Video art at FC Hyena (SOLD OUT)

Let’s be honest: in a museum or gallery, you don’t always have the time to watch all video works from beginning to end. That is why, together with curator Robbie Schweiger, I am organizing FULL MOON: a monthly evening during which we will show video art at the ultra comfy cinema FC Hyena in Amsterdam Noord. 

Swap the uncomfortable gallery bench and dirty headphones for soft pillows, a glass of nice wine and delicious food, and enjoy video art in a cinema. 

The first edition takes place on January 30. With works by Kévin Bray, Anna Dasovic, Maurice van Es, Ana Maria Gómez López, Kubilay Mert Ural, CHE Onejoon, Zamir Suleymanov and Marieke Zwart.

Good Intentions

Together with Anne Ruygt and Bertan Selim I curated the exhibition Currents #6: Good Intentions at Marres, House for Contemporary Culture, Maastricht. We visited graduation shows of 18 art academies and selected our favourite works. The result: an exhibition bringing together personal stories and political statements dealing with identity, youth and cultural traditions. 

With Elena Aya Bundurakis, Pavel Balta, Jonas Brinker, Liesel Burisch, Sjoerd Houben, Nimrod Karmi, Susanne Khalil Yusef, Yorgos Maraziotis, Kim Nuijen, Eric Patel, Pati Petrykowska, Constance Proux, Anna Rubbens, Alexey Shlyk, Bert Snaterse, Nasrin Tork and Joris Verleg.

Good Intentions runs until 10 February ♥︎.

Falling

Lost & Found organized an evening for stray images and sounds at the beautiful Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. The theme was falling. I was invited to write a recap of the wonderful evening.  For Lost & Found, June 2015. → Vallen

Artfest

On June 11th I will co-host Artfest, a live talkshow about art. We invited very interesting guests and the theme of this edition will be money. It’s going to be super cool. Internet Yami-ichi / Black Market

This Sunday I will give a tour at the Internet Yami-ichi, an offline Internet flea market at De Brakke Grond: “The Internet Yami-ichi / Black Market celebrates the Internet in all its glory at the buzzing setting of a flea market. The cultural miracle we call the Internet crawls away from behind the glaring screen and drags along our so very dear memes, trolls, cats and glitches as well as the Web’s most obscure details including MacBook air air, the You Cube channel and analogue scroll bars to the booths”. Geoffrey Lillemon’s crazy universe

Bill Viola’s sublime video’s

De Nieuwe Kerk on Amsterdam’s Dam Square mounted an exhibition with only one artwork, Bill Viola’s diptych Fire Woman and Tristan’s Ascension. I wrote about the overwhelmingly beautiful work for SSBA Salon.
