View of the Medina of Fès
The site of the Marinid Tombs has immense historical significance. It is the where the rulers of the Marinid dynasty were buried. These days only two mausoleums remain and both are in a poor state of decay. While there are still remaining signs of its former splendor, you would have to look hard to notice them. These days, the Marinid Tombs are more popular because of it is a great spot for viewing the medina of Fès. The medina unfurls below you and it is so vast that you would be hard pressed to see any detail here. The medina is so dense that only the largest structures can be seen.

Mausoleum at the Marinid Tombs
It is unfortunate that there is no information about the Marinid Tombs here at the site itself. It would be nice to have something here to inform visitors of what it is they are seeing. The Marinid Tombs were built to house the remains of the rulers of Fès during the Marinid dynasty. Lately, it has become popular for sunset viewing as well as looking at the city of Fès. The site actually has two mausoleums. Both are in various states of disrepair. However, if you look closer particularly to near the top, you can see indications of its former grandeur. Some historians even describe it as being lavishly decorated, probably not surprising since these are royalty buried here.

Exploring the Marinid Tombs
The Marinid Tombs are a spectacular monument build on a hill overlooking the medina of Fès. These are the resting places of the former rulers of Fès where they established a dynasty here in the thirteenth century. They decided that the hill would be the perfect final resting place for them as they overlook Fès. The tombs weren't in great shape though, parts of the tomb have already fallen into disrepair and it doesn't seem like there would be plans to preserve them. The site is totally open and anyone can just come up to it. The tombs are open from the front but there isn't much to see here.
