Fic title: Second Banana (which is a terrible joke, but I couldn't think of a better title and once this came into my head I couldn't not do it. I might change it later, depending on how I feel)

Summary: While Oswald Cobblepot presides over the Pax Penguina, the deceased mafia don Salvatore Maroni, resurrected by a mysterious sponsor who disapproves of Oswald's rule, walks into the newly opened Iceberg Lounge and finds a Penguin very different from the one he remembered. Oswald, meanwhile, finds himself strangely well-disposed, even nostalgic, toward the man who was once his mark, his (fake) boss, and his enemy, for reasons that aren't entirely clear even to him.

This was written as a gift for @ynngaa for the Nygmobblepot Haven Secret Friends Exchange. Happy New Year (belatedly)... or 10th day of Christmas, I guess?

Here was the prompt I wrote it for: “It takes place during the Pax Penguina era. Maroni is brought to life because some traditionalist wants old order back in Gotham and paid Hugo Strange to do it because of course the Court of Owls kept his body intact. So he’s back but Gotham is not what he remembers. And his little boy toy is not what he remembers and they navigate through this completely new dynamic. Oswald is wary but despite what he thinks his heart isn’t his only weakness so it’s easy to get swept in memories. I don’t expect anything long, especially when this is not everyone’s favorite ship. I’ll be fine with just one scene that plays out without world building. Of course if the author gets carried away I certainly won’t complain ♥️”

Well, here's one scene that plays out without a whole lot of world-building... but I did get a little bit carried away, so it's a very long scene XD

Oswald and Men

Gobblepot

Oswald had this huge crush on Jim in the beginning of Season 1 up until season 2 where he took the fall for Jim with the murder of Galavan. Oswald desperately wants to be Jim's friend but Jim only uses Oswald ( i think Jim knows Oswald likes him so he uses this to get favors out of him).

Nygmobblepot

They could have been the best power couple in gotham. I do believe there was a time that Ed did love Oswald. Ed had this silly admiration/infatuation with the kingpin in season 1 and they became best friends in season 2-3. I do think if Oswald had confessed sooner, Ed wouldnt have met Isabella and started the shitshow.

Zsaszlepot

The penguin and the shark. Zsasz is very loyal to Penguin when he became kingpin. I do think Zsasz had doubted Oswald's ability in the beginning (zsasz may have thought how can this puny little bird take over big bad gotham) and that fucking scene in season 2 where Oswald and Zsasz had the little eye to eye contact is very sensual. I miss Zsasz being Penguin's right hand.

Jeromewald

This is the ship that could have been. I loved their dynamic together. Jerome wants to paint the town crazy while Oswald wants rules and regulations. Jerome is spunky and young and sexual, something Oswald is not. They are contrasts but they had great chemistry together. If jerome had been successful corrupting Oswald, oswald could have been his harley quinn.

Freezewald

Them together is such a sight. Oswald did have a lot to say about the freaks in the beginning of season 3 thats why Fries was hesitant to make an alliance with him. I did like the scene where Oswald raked his eyes over Fries's naked upper body. This ship was the silver lining when nygmobblepot died. Shame the writers didnt do much with them.

I want to see more of them in season 5. There is not much content with these 2 but they look good together. Two men with their elegant fashion ruling gotham together, well lets wait for the next season then.
