I’m indian (second gen) but as a kid I worshiped mulan because she was the closest I got to a princess who looked like me plus she was pretty badass
I'm Indian as well. You could call it second or first gen, depending on your perspective because I was born there but I've spent the majority of my life in North America.
Jasmine is definitely the closest they've gotten to looking like me, but Idk what that's worth considering the things I've discussed. Mulan is fabulous. I can't speak to her cultural accuracy bc I know less about it, but as a protagonist (and as a kick in the face to gender roles and misogyny) she was so great.

What they did with Jasmine was decent-up a fetish and present it to children. Harsh words, I know, but honestly? They didn’t have the balls to make a story with coherent cultural references.
I mean, basically. They can make a million movies with Europeans and pretend that there were no non-White people bc ~only white people lived in Europe~ ~gotta keep it accurate!!~ but then when a movie is actually done with people from a different culture they're like how can we make them seem more relatable to Western society?
