I mean how often do you really get to show off your power? You know, like most people are probably used to seeing it, so it’s not as impressive anymore, but like, we’ve never seen anything like it, so, you know. - C2EP88

A thought about The Assembly
So that conversation between Caleb and The Martinet, Caleb asked what he knew about Trent’s teachings, and The Martinet said enough and that things got more out of hand than what Trent told them it would be.
My thinking? Caleb and Ludinus are having two different conversations. From canon, Liam hasn’t really focused on the expiraments Trent did on him and Astrid and Eodwulf, except for that one scene in Uthodurn with the shards of Residuum, but Caleb didn’t call that out, Liam did.
What is questionable but could be distorted for the good of the empire? Expiramentation with residuum, which involved maybe getting it from Whitestone while under control of the Briarwoods who had connections to known exiled former Assembly Member Anna Ripley, what can get out of hand? Turning it into expiramentation on underage children.
But what does Caleb find the most horrible about what he did under Trent? Killing his parents. Caleb is asking if The Martinet knows that Trent makes Vollstrecker kill their family as a last show of commitment to him, Trent.
Caleb wants to know if anyone in the Assembly knows about false memories and killing family. The Martinet is trying to justify human (children) experimentation. They’re having two different conversations imho, and if Caleb wants to get Trent permenantly kicked out, or face consequences, he’s going to have to admit to being forced to kill his parents.
DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED on how surprised Essik will be when he finally hears from Jester tomorrow?? He's been lowkey high key anxious and waiting for one of her inconvenient calls for a month?? He hasn't had to give any teleport rides and he misses the M9? Esp Caleb? But also like he's got Bright Queen breathing down his neck about their leads with the Beacon and he's got nothing feom their avenue?
Then outta nowhere hearing news about the Mighty Nein via this strong stranger from Taldorei, who said she's been hanging out and getting calls from Jester and trying to research the Angel of Irons on their behest, same as the M9 asking the Dynasty to check it out, and this woman says they're fucjing up Tharizdun while also under Kryn attack and Essik is probs just like "fuck why didn't Jester message me fuck fuck"
AND IN THE MORNING SHE GOT 25 WORDS TO EXPLAIN and it'll probably be like "Hey Essik! It's me, Jester! Oh wait, you knew that-- anyway can you give us a ride to the plane of like, fire ooooor-- shit!" And then he has a moment to compose himself and ask WTF in a measured tone while Jester re-explains while Martinet watches her every move.
"Hello. We are now negotiators for the Empire. Please-- meet us at a-- neutral location. Your choice, not the Dynasty. Not White Dragon Cave either please." She slips in as Martinet thinks she was done.
(No one else she has met likes taking up the full 25 words but she'll be damned if she doesn't)
Anyway I'm nervous and hyped as fuck for how Essik reacts to Them after all that time.
"Where were you?"
"Stuck about 1000 years in the past dw"
caduceus: we could do it in the happy fun ball
ludinus: what is the happy fun ball?

Why is Ludinus Da'leth lying?
So this has been bothering me for DAYS now. I mean the Assembly's story about the origins of the beacon and how long they have been in possession of it (not to mention how they had and then lost that first beacon) is clearly a blatant lie. Also, they should clearly know that the Dynasty would not be fooled by such a story in the least. I mean they absolutely know Yeza (who was working with the beacon) was captured months ago and has most certainly told the Bright Queen everything he knows. So who are they trying to fool!? At first I thought that possibly they were just trying to keep public appearances in the same way that they clearly edit the news that is spread by the town cryers, but then why would the lie to the diplomats. It's one thing the lie to the public, but their diplomats have to be in discussion directly with the Dynasty and such a blatant lie in those courters would only hinder (possibly even sabbatoge the peace agreements). Then it occurred to me. THE KING DOESN'T KNOW! It is clearly the best explanation, they're not trying to fool the Dynasty, they are just trying to cover their butts and prevent the King from discovering that they were complacent or the orchestrated a plot to steal these beacons months if not years ago and are probably the reason the war started in the first place. Whether or not they were also involved in the cult (although my in my opinion the motivation of high powered wizards steer more towards knowledge and power hungry rather than blind faith) their interest in dunimancy was definitely taken advantage of by the cult and the Assembly was up to some serious shit behind the King's back. That is why they are so eager to help with these peace agreements. They are on the edge of being found out for treason and are desperately trying to maneuver around the situation.
If this is true...the M9 might actually have a way to uproot the while Assembly for good!!!!
