Something that really saddens me is the rise of the "New" fanfic culture in ao3 practiced by some newer readers that the pandemic brought. I've not seen these that many times but even the few times that I have make me feel so bad.

This includes:

Sorting fics by kudos or Hits (there is nothing inherently wrong about this, but this is a reflection of a very incorrect idea that more Kudos or more Hits indicate that the fic is better.) This not only takes away readership from lesser know/WIP works that the reader might like, but also giving rise to hyper-popular and mythicized fics like ATYD which get elevated to a status that imo no fic ever should. I'm taking "if you wanna get into the mauraders fandom, you HAVE to read ATYD". For this post, I can put my biases aside. No fic should ever become so popular to the point that it becomes a "source material" for a fandom or sub fandom.

Using bookmarks as a place to give "review" on fics. Don't like don't read. Simple. When did this core ethic of fandom get overridden? Even I hate certain fics, but I will NEVER ever go to ao3 and misuse bookmarks like that so that the author cannot remove it. Come to Tumblr, rant about it here all you want, but grossly misusing bookmarks just so you can leave a public negative review that the author can't take down is disgusting and unacceptable.
