you CANNOT have a good character driven film where these five assholes don't even talk to each other unless it's a quip, MARVEL.

Ugh, I'm so mad bc I really wanted to enjoy sylki, I really thought it'd be fun. But,,, not canon. I'm happy for the fans, I'm glad y'all can enjoy it. But now whenever I see the ship I think of how it's another little detail Marvel used to take away the queerness in both. Details like "being born the goddess of mischief" and "a female variant? Sounds horrible" just further confirm Sylvie isn't just another Loki. She's a female version, bc all other Lokis are men. They may be shapeshifters, but these details were there to assure cishet viewers that they're not genderqueer. They didn't make Loki canonically genderfluid because the wrote it down on a piece of paper on the credits, that's easy to miss. But they did make sure to add all those dialogue so it'd be easier to say "not on the mcu, look at these scenes, he's cisgender"
Same with his bisexuality, "a bit of both" was a good start, until it stopped there. It's easy to argue against if that all they said and shown (which really, they didn't show anything) and giving him a trope that's notoriously applied to straight character (male falling for his female version) makes it easier. My brother in law and other cishet ppl I know watched this show and still believe Loki is cishet. And that was so on purpose from Marvel.
Really, I don't know what I expected from them, I don't know why I honestly thought Marvel was opening doors to queer visibility, when all it did was,,, nothing.
i made something that might be handy for anybody who shit talks the mcu as much as i do
[image ID: the words "disclaimer: black panther and thor 3: ragnarok are exempt from this statement (captain america 2: the winter soldier you're on thin fucking ice)" over a top-to-bottom blue-to-pink gradient background. the text is black except for the names 'black panther', which is in purple; 'thor 3: ragnarok', which is in green; and 'captain america 2: the winter soldier', which is in red. the font is cutesy and whimsical and features hearts at every opportunity. end ID]
Villains who think they're the righteous hero even when they're clearly morally corrupt bags of shit are disgusting, but what's completely intolerable are villains who think they're the righteous hero and are treated that way by the narrative.
And that's why I hate mcu St*ve R*gers more than Thanos.
I’m going to be petty and say just how happy I am that the Joker got two Oscars while Endgame got none, not even the one for visual effects. The movie that basically put all of its money into CGI didn’t get that one prize. I love that a good story and good acting is still considered more important than visuals for the sake of visuals. Hope Marvel learns their lesson. CGI should only help tell the story not replace it.
on the one hand, i hate marvel’s track record with Hel and want them to leave her the fuck alone.
On the other......... Her taking over Asgard... Her saying she’s not queen or monster but goddess of the dead.... teaming up with Fenrir.....
On my mutant third appendage........... Loki with a gun what the fuck Marvel.
The boys is just straight up, oh you hate superhero movies and like violence? Boy have we got a show for you
a dilemma
I've recently read an enlightening criticism on Avengers: Endgame and I absolutely agree with all the points made in the article. And now, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about any of the MCU platonic and romantic relationships that I like reading fan fiction of.
Is reading non profit material from a company whose ideologies regress for the sake of family friendly films and represses risk taking films that promote diversity supporting said company? If I disagree with the values of the films, should I still support materials that are derived from it?? I love the fictional characters but the people behind making them (the actors, the producers, the executives, everyone!) are hypocrites and cowards and after a lot of thought, no matter who they are and what they stand for, if their industry and livelihood (which is reflected in the products that they plaster on screen) encourages conservative groups and white privilege then can their films be trusted? They create franchises and cinematic universes that everyone watches and that's the kind of message that they want to send out to everyone??
I'm just really disappointed that they're cowards and that the actors that I like are nothing more than puppets. I understand that I have no idea how much input they had in making the film, but they had the money to indulge RDJ's whims (VANS FOR ONE ACTOR. I MEAN YES HE'S RDJ BUT SERIOUSLY DOES ONE REALLY NEED THAT MUCH VANS AND PERSONNEL. IT JUST SCREAMS WHITE PRIVILEGE) and they put in the I love you 3000 bullshit which btw doesn't even matter in the film bit apparently it's Endgame's slogan now judging on how many times they put that everywhere, so I have some reason to believe that they let some of their actors in the writing process. AND THAT'S WHAT WE GET???
I'm very sad and maybe I'm naive but they could've done more, risked more. I'm still annoyed that they cast Cumberbatch for Strange when its a fucking Asian role (oh and Swinton). I'm not entirely clear here (not a born english speaker sorry), I'm very confused and damn hungry so I'm taking a step back to analyse my feelings on this amd to research more. I've already written a very critical piece on EG after I first watched it and reading another article ignited my anger again. Thoughts on how to support my MCU fan fic faves?
