Accidentally paid for a month of Spotify so I'm asking for suggestions for songs to add to the Star-Studded playlist. Since the Spotify algorithm will only show me the same 30 songs I have built it up this much by manually going through artists I already know and search their discographies, but like. Sometimes I would like to try out new songs. And I've tried all 30 Spotify thinks I would like. (It is wrong.)

It is so, so funny how much Dick downplayed this in retrospect.

Out of context, it felt like Dick was just making excuses for being a cold asshole to Kory. You know, standard dumb teenage boy inconsiderateness exacerbated by Batman-isms. I operated under this assumption during my first couple of reads because I hadn’t had access to the Batman books. I now have the context.

So, I know there are plenty of iconic nicknames for Dick — particularly “the Boy Wonder” — during his time as Robin. All of those are great. Very cute. Very wholesome.

However, I think we need to bring back “devil-child with the laughing eyes”.

Is it a mouthful? Yes. Does it convey every single aspect of Dick’s character at that age? Immaculately so. He’s mischievous. He’s dangerous. But he’s silly and gleeful while doing it, and always laughing. Just… hopefully not at you.

(And, if he isn’t silly or gleeful, if he isn’t laughing… run.)

I would say he "doesn't know if he wants to date Tanaka or be Tanaka" but the truth is he wants to be the person Takana knows he can be. Which may or may not involve a pronoun change and schoolgirl uniform.

To be perfectly clear: fem todo is still Extremely Ripped. No personality changes. No dyphoria, euphoria only. But if she isn't a tall girl with a big butt she will be so sad.

A dumb idea that i have is that all the sports/hobbies in the Yugioh world are actually as dramatic as the card games, we just don't see them because we exclusively follow the POV of game nerds. Like, people that really like Soccer can do superpowered attacks like in Inazuma Eleven, but Yugi doesn't like sports so we don't see that.

Tristan seems pretty boring, but that's because we don't see the motorcycle-related spy thriller that's also one of those deliquent manga he gets involved in off-screen; somehow, it is the missing link that leads directly into 5Ds in the future

Tea goes to the USA and quickly becomes the protagonist of a Josei manga about dancing, with murder, betrayal and yuri undertones, but you need to go buy a diferent magazine to read about that unfortunately

Mokuba is probably the rival character to another protagonist in a anime about either Capumon or computer games in his free time; he's less unhinged than Seto in that role but probably even less likely to admit he has a crush on said protagonist

I've seen the sentiment mostly from romance fans about when someone makes a story that throws out a lot of romance conventions and outsiders to the genre are all like "FINALLY, a GOOD romance novel!" and the insult that apparently to find something good you have to abandon the genre conventions

And I've been like 'this makes sense as a complaint to have,' but I think I felt it for the first time about a YouTube thumbnail that was like 'when two authors do the same plot, but one of them is fujimoto!'

Like, the indignation of, first off, you think 1.5 similarities makes these the same plot?? And secondly, I like chainsaw man as much as anyone, but do you not like a traditional demonic possession plotline?? Chainsaw man is a nice riff but there is nothing about the basics that needs to be fixed.

Anyway, shout-out to genre romance authors. Whack.

DC HORROR PRESENTS #2 "SUPERSTITIOUS LOT" ⸺ Tennyson Stacks is asked to help scare the Penguin, upon which the paranormal expert summons the spirits of the Penguin's victims to terrorize and guilt trip him into potentially atoning for his crimes. It is implied that Tennyson Sparks and Batman have done this sort of routine before and are friendly with each other. Tennyson Sparks is a unique character who has yet to appear outside of DC HORROR PRESENTS #2, written by Aaron Sagers.

Batman is the fantasy that despite being bad at communicating and emotions, you still have a community, you have people who love you despite huge blow-out fights, and the skills you DO have can do good in the world

the Entire Point of the batman mythos to me is making something meaningful out of a random and pretty senseless act of violence, and then helping a bunch of other people do that too. every time a writer makes joe chill a time traveler or dick grayson have a magical tooth or gives jason todd the blood of the ancients and everything is just a massive conspiracy or whatever the fuck they're just completely missing the point, which is that painful things happen, for reasons we may never understand, and we have to contend with them.

that's the staying power of the fantasy! it's not actually being a billionaire who can beat up a million ninjas with his bare hands and has a really cool car. if you think that's the fantasy you got caught up in the trappings. it's that you could take the worst moment of your life and make meaning out of the howling empty void of grief by using it to help people!
