BH6 Preview: Artifact - Double-Edged The following represents dialogue that is not final and is subject to change.

Go Go grunted as the beam of energy continued to pummel her newly acquired shield.  Even with the increased defense, it was going to break through at any moment...

And then a sudden shout came out of nowhere, and the pressure dissipated.  Confused, Go Go chanced a peek over the rim...

The man’s attention was now on Wasabi, who had taken up his own weapon: a long, thin silver sword with a golden guard.  The blade was glowing with the same energy that she had been hit with, causing it to shine with an otherworldly glow.

With a flick of his wrist, Wasabi slashed the air, the shockwave hitting their foe into the nearest booth.  Go Go took the opportunity to dash over to her teammate.  “Where’d you get that giant toothpick from?  I didn’t see it in Fred’s little tour he-”

The tip of the sword was driven into the ground, and Wasabi dropped to his knee.  Go Go noticed his hand was shaking and sweating, but before she could talk, she saw something else.

A dark...goo...was starting to seep out of the guard, crawling up the blade and turning whatever it touched from gray to black.  And Wasabi was looking worse and worse the more he held onto it.

“Wasabi?”

“He cannot hear you, mortal.”

Their enemy had detached himself from the rubble and stood up again.  “The blade feeds off of corruption.  Of pain.  Only the impure can wield it to such a degree.  Perhaps you should be asking yourself whether he is who he says-” A second blast of energy cut off his declaration, sending him back into the remnants of the booth.  Go Go‘s head whipped around to see Wasabi standing up again.  He had the sword pointed across the way, smoke whipping up from where he had released their foe’s energy.  The dark ooze also seemed to have stopped growing in size.

“I’m pretty sure...” Wasabi spoke for the first time, his eyes narrowed in concentration.

“I’m pretty sure that girlfriend would have something to say about that.”

We’ve seen the Hammer, and we’ve seen Go Go’s preferred weapon.  And now you get to see Wasabi’s: the Ebony Blade, weapon of the Black Knight.

As a sword person myself, I had a very large amount of swords to choose from in the Marvel Universe when it came to Wasabi.  And no, I didn’t chose this one because of the name (or because he’s black).  It’s because of the history of the Ebony Blade.

As hinted at in the blurb, the Ebony Blade feeds off of rage and impurity.  The stronger that negativity, the stronger its power.  However, if it’s used for too long, it will eventually start to curse the wielder.  And I figured that would be something to see physically in the Big Hero 6 version of it.  As it gets used more, the blade turns from gray to black, and once it’s completely black...

Well, you don’t want to know what happens when it does that.

Wasabi, being the most innocent of the team, would constantly be at a tug-of-war with his own weapon.  Does he strike harder?  Does he let up?  And would he ever succumb to the curse if given enough time?

...And yes, I didn’t draw his eyes or the rest of his arm because I was trying to do something similar to Go Go’s picture with the shield.  He’s not eyeless, I assure you.

Well, that’s another Big Hero 6 person down.  I wonder who I’m going to draw next.  Hiro?  Honey Lemon?  Fred?  Baymax?

The mind boggles.
