I have just realised that my literal favourite trope that I always go weak for is, quirky, smart, brunette girl falls in love with suave, mysterious, free spirited, brunette man who thinks he’s not good enough. Plz help

I just realized: my otp ships can actually tell you alot about about my RL romantic relationships. Am I the only one??? 😬😂🤷‍♀️

Dramione: the nothing is impossible couple, that should've been able to overcome everything--she should've been his guiding light, but instead they only manage to achieve a barely there enemies to acquaintances storyline; basically the slow burn that existed only in the imagination.

Snowbarry: the friends that never became more, but would've been epic if they had. The potential was there, recognized, but they never took the plunge.

Romanogers: the slow-burn that never quite made it; a kiss that never amounted to anything, and instead she had to silently watch him pine for someone else until she literally died.

Stydia: the novela style love--he loves her from the jump, and she literally dates every other guy that comes to town before realizing she loves him...once he's gone.

Stony: Need I explain? Why do I even do this to myself?

Buffy/Angel: the toxic one that was way over romanticized.

Mash: doomed from the start.

Spencer/Olivia: the perpetual will we/ won't we that still has hope...maybe

Braven: the one night stand that surprisingly evolved into a friendship that ended in disaster.

Bellarke: don't even ask.

Okay but can we talk about that scene where Bash comes in from outside and he asks if everyones gone, and if the baby's asleep and Mary's says yes and they start kissing and slowly move through the house giggling and kissing and making their way to their bedroom. Like this show is for all ages so obviously they couldn't go too far but that was such a sweet, genuine scene especially when you think about how this show has addressed the topic of sex in the past (pet mouse, Anne describing hearing the activities and thinking it sometimes sounded painful) but showing how loving and how mutually enjoyable it can and should be is just really beautiful and you can see how good Bash and Mary's relationship is in that scene.

Anne with an E season 3 spoilers below:

I really want to like Anne with an E or Anne as it’s named for it’s CBC airing. And it’s a good, well made show, no doubt. I especially love the friendships between the girls - so rare to find a show that gives importance to the strong bonds and friendships that girls form on young adult shows. Anne having a birthday party with the girls, her friendships with Diana and Cole are all so great. And so are her other relationships, her need to be independent, her inquisitive personality, all her flaws etc. She’s a great character.

The problem I have is with the show’s treatment of it’s characters of color which  makes me uncomfortable watching this. I understand it’s the time period, but then just tell the story of this group of white characters?

The characters of color only exist to further the story of the white characters. Mary and Bash and baby Delphine is not about their struggles living in a white, racist world. No, it’s about Gilbert’s man pain, and all the generous white people taking care of the baby, and Anne’s story about being an orphan. Bash and Mary’s story would have been interesting in it’s own right as a black family with their own struggles - but no, let’s kill off Mary and explore how this affects Anne and Gilbert!

Anne’s story has elements of the tropey white savior we see often in these kind of shows. I am not even looking forward to the story with the indigenous folks on the show. Marilla and others are already shown as being racist against them. No doubt the very woke and progressive Anne will lecture them all about how Ka’kwet and her family are nice people and educate everyone and fight for their rights and bring them into the fold. And then one fine day Ka’kwet will probably die and we will get episodes on how all this affects Anne.

If the show really wants to be progressive, then have a character of color front and center along with Anne and let that character explore these themes of racism, discrimination, pain and loss.

I am hoping that they give Bash more to do and we see his struggles raising Delphine in a cruel, racist world and focus on him after what happened to Mary. But still, the way they disposed off Mary just sucks big time. There was so much they could have done with her character. So much.
