500. The 1984 Olympics Sports Illustrated Preview Issue (July 18, 1984) part 2
(part 1)
Aw, not Mary Decker. I briefly brought her up in a favorite commercial post when I brought up the Randy Newman/Nike "I love LA" commercial that aired during the Olympics. Um, she did not have a good Olympics.
Rhythmic Gymnastics made their debut at the 1984 Olympics. Here is a clip of winner Lori Fung with the ribbon. It always ticks me off when men say that this sport should be removed from the Olympics because they simply don't understand it. Looks like the ladies back then didn't do the towel toss in anger thingy they do today though
Ok, so this shows how uncultured I was a kid. Dorina the Italian fencer was on the cover of the handbook that was inside the magazine. I knew there was something called "foil fencing" as a kid, and I thought this was it: Dorina was making marks against a foil wall and they judged that.
So this is amazing, the previous owner wrote who medaled on every.single.event. At first I imagined the original owner watching every single event on tv, but then I realized they probably just got the results in the newspaper the following day.
aw, a long lost relative of Yusuf Dikec!
The population of Iliamma was 108 at the last Census in 2020. Google Street View has not visited Iliamma.
Woaaah you guys, Holiday Inn had Zoom back in 1984!
Ok, I don't remember what I did last week, but I remember this Culligan ad! I don't know what math problem my superfan was attempting in the corner.
Ok, this is it. This is the ~*thing*~. Lil ten year old me saw this ad and wanted these phones immediately. Mom and I went to the thrift stores on the regular back then and I was always in search of these phones. According to a post on reddit, the actual phone was $175, and the sculptures were over $100 each. [archive] On eBay, I see a lot of the actual phone with the 1984 logo on the plate, but only the discus statue on eBay right now. /edit/ I found the torch runners! Their torch broke!

Woah, this description of Kristiina Lillak's (a Finnish javelin thrower) Finnish massage is almost seggsual.
She had an amazing head of 80s hair.
Ok, when I see 1984 Olympics tapes on eBay or on Matt McCarthy's TikTok eight out of ten times its on a TDK tape! My copies I have in my chest of drawers are TDKs.
This photo always disturbed me. (Willie DeWit, Canadian boxer who won a silver medal)
Rod Stewart and Canada Dry Ginger Ale, it goes together like wood and soup.
