On the Romance options that carry across the trilogy

Virmire Survivor

With the Survivor I at least feel like you're on equal footing. They may not quite have your skill but they're at least at your level of maturity and life stage

Liara

Because she's going to be the least contentious. I think. She would not share interest with many Shepherds she's at least at a similar stage. A bit too bookish an academic except for a very specific few backgrounds but at least not a child

Garrus

The line "Gray, I don't know what to do with gray" well I like it as a line for him has it shows his character growth. It also shows how far he still needs to come.

Also I generally object to causing pain to someone you're supposed to love.

Tali

She is a child when you first meet her. And while she grows up a lot 2. The fact that you are heavily responsible for that maturity makes the whole relationship a little off-putting.

And like Garrus above I don't like risking my lover's life for just a kiss

On Mass Effect characters

So, I lot people think of the alien crew on the Normandy Garrus makes the most sense to Shepherd. But I think there's a character that makes even more sense regardless of background.

That's Tali. Why because everyone has been out on their own for the first time and thinks that they know everything and have everything under control. When they are old enough to leave home for the first time. Tali is very at that stage in her life. Everyone been that very 19.

Next there's Wrex. He's a merc, that's also something every Shepherd would have to have dealt with a lot of. And most mercs if they get good enough to survive, have to be certain degree honest. Their reputation is their money maker.

Then Garrus, because while he should be a cop. And that is fundamentally different from being a soldier. He's not.

Lastly Liara, is very clearly an academic. And only some Shepherds would have experience with that sort of Academia
