I think I'm allergic to Synthesis ending hate.

Saw someone mention bodily autonomy as an argument against it. While this is a valid argument, it is also a valid argument against the other two endings.

The Synthesis ending violates the bodily autonomy of all living things, this is true. But the hugely important thing is that it doesn't KILL and doesn't override MENTAL autonomy.

The potential for change in bodily and mental function in the Synthesis ending is astronomical.

Potential self-modification of programming in formerly organic-only life. Potential for skin to skin contact LAN connections (Read a crazy fic with that)

It's really cool to think about. Despite the new opportunities also creating new struggles.

The thing about the bodily autonomy argument is that the other two endings violate the bodily autonomy of the Reapers and potentially all the husks. They might have the opportunity to be returned to either their old minds or to become a new person altogether.

Despite their evil, the Reapers are sapient and intelligent life. People forget that, and forget that the Synthesis ending also gives them potential to change. All synthetic life have been given greater potential for change.

Even if it causes new conflicts, I believe it's worth it.

Which do you ending do you believe is the canonical ending of Mass Effect 3? I know technically any could be the canonical ending and we’ll get more info in the next game but what you believe in your own heart is the ending? And why? I’m about to start the third game and I’ve conflicted with what ending I want to do.

Like I know it's been over a decade but I'm still like: but why did the Normandy FTL jump at the end? Where to? Hackett ordered everyone to the rendezvous point. Surely that wasn't an FTL jump away. And surely they wouldn't just abandon Shepard, the crew (Joker especially) would circle back around to save Shepard, since they don't know that 2 out of 3 options mean Shepard dies. Heck, they don't even know there are options at that point. What's that garden planet anyway they land on and why, if the ship is perfectly capable of flying?

It just makes no sense and it's making it too hard to write my fanfic post ending and I'm mad about it, okay?

Is anyone else surprised that the destroy ending seems to be the most popular considering it’s objectively the worst ending? (In terms of the condition the galaxy is left in.)

Like, think about it. All the mass relays are broken and the Citadel is severely damaged. All AIs are gone. The catalyst does say the remaining survivors will have little difficulty repairing the damage, but that’s complete bullshit. The galaxy has been at war for a year, many people have died, whole worlds have practically been destroyed. AIs were relied on. The mass relays are the only way for a ship to leave a cluster (at least quickly). So basically you have a bunch of people stranded with no way of getting from one cluster to another. Remind me how that’s supposed to be easily fixed? It would take decades for all the relays to be restored! Compared to the control and synthesis endings, where you have the massive army of Reapers to help restore everything.

I get narratively it makes the most sense, as your goal throughout the whole trilogy is to destroy the reapers. It is also the only ending where Shepard lives. Still, I am surprised that it seems to be the most popular ending when to me the disadvantages clearly outweigh the benefits.

Okay so by this point we're all aware about the dumpster fire that was the Mass Effect 3 ending. But here's the thing. If they just removed the last 15~ minutes of the game, it would have been perfect. I don't even mind Shepard dying really, just make it make sense for the love of god.

Like picture this.

After the Catalyst's beam has been shot out, and Anderson's death, Shepard is sitting by his corpse, nearly out of breath, and she looks up, and sees reaper corpses falling from the skies. She leans back, nearly breathless that the future she's fought so hard to save has been secured, and then closes her eyes. Then the credits roll.

That would have been so much more impactful than

been thinking about the keepers and how it would've been cool if they played a role in me3 and had the thought of! the keepers designed the crucible.

we know that the plans for the crucible have been around for a long time - the catalyst says that it thought they were destroyed at one point. the prothean vi says their scentists believed the keepers were one of the first races harvested by the reapers, and since they're already connected to the citadel it would make sense that they're able to design something that attaches to it. if there were less reapers right at the beginning of the cycles, it might've taken them longer to harvest the keepers than it did to harvest the protheans, which was at least a century.

and now I'm just thinking about shepard connecting the crucible to the citadel and sitting there bleeding and exhausted and not knowing what to do, and then all the keepers come running out of their tunnels. they do something to the crucible, and the reapers die. in the end the galaxy is saved by the combined efforts of organics, synthetics, and the race the reapers already conquered. those funky little dudes.
