Aoi, as the Mastermind?

Trigger Warnings and other warnings: Danganronpa spoilers, multiples deaths, mention of suicide, mention of depression.

 First of all, I want to say that I haven’t played, red or watch all of Danganronpa Canon contents. I watched a Let’s play of the first game (in French), watch the anime of the first game and almost ended Danganronpa 2. So, I clearly miss some details that could impact my lecture of the universe. However, I think I’m safe enough to talk about my idea and not risking spoiling myself?

I love Aoi. She is an absolute heart, she is precious, she’s really awesome and I want to protect her with my life. While watching the Let’s Play of the first game, I spoiled myself some deaths because I’m sensitive about some kind of deaths and I wanted to appreciate the story without having a trigger (I did that before learning characters names). Because of that, I learnt that a character would kill themselves and not remembering their name, I was really afraid that it would be Aoi. Also, I knew Junko was the mastermind because I was spoilt of that like 5, or 6, maybe 7 years ago and her design was blocked in my mind. With all of that, I clearly knew that no one could be the Mastermind, clearly not Aoi (and I was clearly confused since Junko was getting stabby stabby stabbed in the very beginning).

Now that I said all of that, let’s be creative.

I really love watching people imagine how either character could be the mastermind (and I completely need someone to explain to me how Taka could be the Mastermind because he is literally the only one that can’t become the Mastermind, being the Ultimate Compass I actually now have my own interpretation on how Taka could be a mastermind but it’s sad and everything and that’s not the post fort that ), and the design are all so pretty great. I don’t really know which one could be the best Mastermind, out of Junko obviously but I want to talk about Mastermind! Aoi and how she has a really great potential.

First of all, Aoi is a really joyful girl, really happy, and she loves everyone, most especially Sakura, I know it, you know it, we all know it. All during the game, the way she got more and more closer to her strong and buff friend, at a point we can really imagine that they could have been girlfriends maybe. We all know how she is, how she acts, and we all know what she wanted to do when Sakura killed herself. Because of Sakura’s death, Aoi was willing to kill everyone just to avenge her and she almost succeed! She manipulated everyone and was even willing to be account as guilty to kill everyone. That’s really impressive, I think we can all agree on that, right? She listened and remembered how the trial worked, how Makoto and Kyoko investigate, how the blackened reacted and defended themselves and she used it against everyone. It’s not a lot, I agree, but it really did intrigue me, and I got really curious about how a Mastermind! Aoi would work.

Aoi is in that type of characters that has that “I’m dumb” energy and it is really funny because we literally have her, Mondo, Leon, Yasuhiro and Hifumi who have that energy, but they are actually geniuses? Makoto said it himself, they have to be and Ultimate but also being on top of every classes (which means that obviously Hifumi had no problems lifting Taka’s body, he has extremely good notes in sport, better than Makoto) so they all have the possibilities to put in place a reflection to manipulate the others.

I mean, Junko and Mukuro did the Tragedy (I didn’t finish the Danganronpa games, if I’m wrong don’t correct me), Sho was a serial killer since a long time, being able to protect herself and her alter Toko, smart enough to hide them from the police, Chihiro was able to hide a computer from Monokuma and from everyone and created an AI able to over-control Junko’s machines for a certain time, Sakura played with Monokuma’s threat so she wouldn’t have to kill one of her friends… So Aoi manipulating Makoto’s trial to try make them all killed to avenge Sakura is really smart and very Mastermind-like. She used her relationships with everyone, her friendships, rivalries, to play with Makoto’s investigation and make him guess wrong.

Can you imagine if she was Mastermind? Having non only everyone memories (since she would be the one to erase their memories) but their news memories by making friends with them again in the game would make her really good to manipulate them. She knows how to anger them, how to mean, how to push them to their limit. That way, she would be the absolute best one to make them kill each other.

In the first trial, she would have pushed Sayaka into attacking Leon for example. Sakura and her were the only who saw Sayaka take the knife. Sakura was a spy for the Mastermind, in that alternate universe with Aoi as the Mastermind, she would have known she is the Mastermind, being in a way the Mukuro to her Junko, and let Aoi manipulates Sayaka into going straight towards her killing plan.

In the fourth trial, Sakura’s suicide would actually not be one but Aoi killing her because she was about to denounce her to the others and all the trial, she would really be admitting the murder but making up the scene, so Makoto proves to everyone that she is not. That way they would be wrong about the blackened being “no one/Sakura” and all die. Another lecture of it would be a mix of case 4 and 5, Aoi killing Mukuro because she was investigating to much and getting too close (to find who is the Mastermind only to avenge her twin’s death) and making the guilt on Sakura (still because she wanted to betray her or just because Sakura was not respecting their contract) and then we would have a last trial like the last one on the original Danganronpa game.

What do you think about it? Would Aoi be a good Mastermind?

Mastermind Aoi au!

But she grows close to the cast during the game and at the end aka the moment of reveal, she tries to convince herself she doesn't care about them and that she didn't try to kill everyone in chap 4 because of Sakura but because she is the mm.

She is in despair the whole time because she felt hope being with the rest and she doesn't want to let that go but she must.

Mastermind Aoi (My Own Design) - Dangan Ronpa

I don't think I posted this yet, but this was my Mastermind Aoi cosplay! Now the design is different because I didn't have the time to do the half jacket thing, but i think it still turned out alright. This was worn at the Dangan Ronpa shoot we had~
