I'm not an expert, I'm still learning about terms I didn't know existed but I feel like the main issue is the drastic change in the color of their skin and the fact that as white girls they can use brown skin as a fashion accessory, while brown and black people face a lot of discrimination for being dark. That, plus the whole thing about how brown/dark is trendy when it's white people "promoting" it. (1/2)

I also think white girls who are interested in the topic can theorize a lot about the issue but people who have actually faced discrimination due to their skin color have a right to find what they do (however we call it) offensive and insensitive. (2/2)
