What are the so called terms? How can I look at them? Im asking because i saw you mention venus terms. What are they used for? Thxs in advance
The terms or bounds devide each of the signs unequally by 5. Each term has its ruler and only the Sun and the Moon dont have any bounds/terms. They're like a little tiny space in that sign that gives a little bit of dignity to a specific planet that's not necessarily the ruler of the sign. If you have Jupiter in fall in Capricorn then it's not well placed and its topics are going to suffer, but if it's in its own terms/bounds of Capricorn, then it can do something. They're very ancient and we dont know the rationale behind them, we dont know how they got calculated, why they're like how they are, or who decided the divisions. But they're used much more by horary astrologers and it works like a clock anyway. There's no horary without them.
You can mark to see them on astro.com in the extended chart selection. I use the egyptian terms because that's the most used, especially by William Lilly, who's the biggest name in horary astrology. I recomend reading Lilly's Christian Astrology for anyone interested in astrology, even if theyre not interested in horary. Ptolemy made his own thing and I dont think anyone uses his division. And the chaldean terms, I dont know about them.
The only astrologer I've read that talks about the ascendant's terms is Firmicus Maternus, from the 4th century AD. He's a dramatic guy and most people get scared of reading his delineations because everything is described very tragically. But I think you still gain something from going to his book Mathesis, on book 5 (Liber Quintus), II - The Ascendant.
You might not understand some things about his writing or his logic, but I think that's fine.
