The Impostors

Four well-known dishes with strong historical meanings rooted in the past, are observed from a contemporary perspective that aims to capture the transition they went through to be what they are today. The installations, then photographed, aim to spark doubts on food culture and food exploitation, focusing the gaze on two different paths a recipe can take. The first, from traditional dish to fast food and the second, from street food to a strategically elevated gourmet experience, in both cases desecrating the original value.

"I was interested in representing, in a single image, the transitions these four recipes went trough from when they were born to to present days. Many times these foods took the wrong turn, they are presented as something they were not, therefore I called this series The Impostors - someone or something that presents itself as different, lying about its history and roots. I realized these transition were often caused by globalization (of course) which per se its not a problem, but nonetheless it had an interesting pattern which was classified in two ways: a humble dish that from street food became gourmet (Sushi and Hamburger) and a traditional food that became junk food (Kebab and Pizza).
