Hey guys,

While I recently picked up the Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint I decided to treat myself to the Mini Pro Filt'r Mattifying Primer 15ml , £15.00 (True Matte). I know I used this a long time ago but honestly it had been so long I couldn’t remember if I liked it or not so I decided to play it safe and get a mini version.

Now I have already used this primer for probably 2 weeks and I am obsessed with it!! This primer is designed for people who have oily / combo skin to give you the perfect base for makeup. It has the same lightweight as the original soft matte formula but this mattifying primer takes away any shine to give you the perfect smooth, clean, non-shiney base. I adore oil-free primers because for my skin type it helps keep my makeup in place way longer and even more smoother then the original formula.

Fenty primers as a whole make a massive difference when it comes to my face base because you can drastically see the difference in my skin and how much smoother is looks under foundation. When I use this primer I first start off with a little bit of the Hydro Visor moisturiser from Fenty Skin around my face, then apply the primer and actually leave my skin for a few minutes to settle. Since following this makeup tip I have loved the primer even more and can visibly see how much easier it is to blend foundation into the primer. When you apply foundation straight away I find the foundation moves around too much and annoys me personally. So moral of that paragraph, apply the primer then wait a few mins before applying more makeup. I'm talking like a few mins max, I tend to swap to eyeshadow at this stage and then go back to face.

Brand Recommendation: Too Faced

Hello Beauty Lovers,

[TESSA] : Last week I was at TKMaxx and I spoted a pretty pink box. When I picked it up I saw it was the Funfetti eyeshadow palette from Too Faced. I heard a lot of positive things about this brand, so I was curious to see what kind of colours were in the palette. And to my joy it was pink, purple/grey and brown. My kind of colours.  When I saw the price, my heart made a jump. It was only €16,99. Normally it was €38. So you all understand I had to have it! And I’m very happy that I bought it. Ofcoures I had to make a look with it (and  I forgot to take a picture of it, silly me). The colours are light and subtle. There is a bit of fall out, but I think every eyeshadow/powder has that. The colour looks good in the eye and the pigment is good. It’s easy to apply the eyeshadow and blend it together. I can tell you, that I’m very happy with this buy.

Ofcourse I had to share my find with Fariza. And guess what?! She also has a Too Faced eyeshadow palette which she loves!

[FARIZA] : And indeed, I do! I bought Too Faced’s ‘Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar’ eyeshadow palette some time last year. 

As you can see, I loved the palette so much, hence it is quite used up! The colours are perfect for any time of the day - for work, for casual, for something more intense with shades like ‘Blueberry Swirl’, ‘Licorice’ and ‘Hot Fudge’. They have such fun names, don’t they? What makes me love the palette so much is the intensity of the pigments - you can be sure that the colour really pops and long-lasting. And oh, they smell like cocoa powder! Yum!

I also have 2 liquid lipsticks from the same brand. One is a nude colour called ‘Child Star’ and the other is ‘Chihuahua’, which I received as part of my birthday gift from Sephora. Last week, I bought their ‘Peach Perfect’ mattifying loose setting powder. You can expect all of Too Faced products to have natural ingredients used. For this setting powder, it was infused with peach and sweet fig cream. It has that beautiful sweet peachy scent too! It’s a lot more expensive as compared to loose powders from drugstore brands but I do think it’s worth every dollars as it leaves you with a smooth complexion that lasts throughout your day. It controls oil as well, so it’s perfect for someone like me living in a tropical country like Singapore!

The best Mattifying Face Products

Oily skin? The easiest and most common thing you’ll be told to do is load up on powder, but is that really the best? In my opinion, it’s not. I have many issues with powder, it can often look unnatural on the skin, it can emphasize texture, oxidize and react into a sticky mess on oily skin.  Whether you are oily or dry you can still run into problems with powders, but thankfully in this day and age there are many other variations of products on the market that can help to increase the longevity of your makeup and keep you matte free! Hooray!

*Murad Blot Effect

One of the most innovative products I’ve come across, the Murad Blot Effect is liquid cushion compact filled with an amazing thin liquid which instantly absorbs oil and gives skin a matte effect. You can use it both under and over makeup for a smooth, velvety instantly matte effect.

*Cover FX Mattifying Spray

In the grand scheme of things, setting sprays are pretty new to the makeup world but they’ve quickly become a must have. The Cover FX Mattifying Spray is an oily girls dream, but it should be used with caution. The formula at times can border on sticky and if too much is used it can make the skin look overly dry and lackluster. Use it sparingly and reap the benefits!

Murad Oil-Control Mattifier

Another favourite of mine from Murad, this is a product which has been around for a touch longer than others, but it’s also one that has been in my makeup bag for quite some time. A moisturiser, primer and sunscreen in one, this is a fantastic product to use underneath makeup.

Drugstore Variations

If you’re after fantastic oil control, you’re going to struggle to find something incredible at the drugstore. Either make the splurge or aid the use of primers, setting sprays and oil blotting sheets (My preferred drugstore setting spray is the Rimmel Insta Fix and Go)

It’s official I’ve found a replacement for all my highend setting sprays!!

It finally happened I have found a drugstore setting spray that works better then my All Nighter setting spray and it way cheaper! I have tried so many mattifying setting sprays over probably the last year maybe year and a half. Now while the ones I have been using are lovely they have been pricey ranging from £15-£25 which as you can imagine can get expensive depending how much you use per month.

Revolution recently updated their Conceal + Define collection adding some new products including the infinite Mattifying Fixing mattifying spray for £8.00. Once i saw it and read some reviews i decided it had to be done and my lord is it a game changer. This spray is designed to hold your makeup for up to 16 hours but since my sleeping pattern is so bizarre at the moment I fell asleep with my makeup on and thanks to the spray when I woke up my makeup was still perfect. I have never seen a drugstore setting spray perform so flawlessly. It doesn’t just burst water at your face but its more a light spritz to not only hold your makeup but also hydrate your face.

Once you have used the spray and it was settled in your skin you’re left with a gorgeous matte finish that I have never experienced with drugstore matte sprays before. Once my Urban Decay setting sprays run out I don’t really think I’ll need to repurchase them when I have something this amazing for £8.00. Not only is it a good setting spray but it is also going to save me so much money which I’m even more excited about. The conceal + define infinite collection itself is so good, its basically a range of products that are designed to make your makeup last longer.

As always Revolution give me amazing products and yet save me money!!

Powder foundation? Oh yes please!!!

Hi guys,

Since being at home I’ve enjoyed giving me skin a break from my typical heavy duty foundation and instead found something to give myself a break. Being at home at the moment I’ve had so much fun playing with eyeshadow, highlight and contour and while playing with these I’ve wanted to keep my base as light as I can. So that being said I decided to go back to my fav powder foundations. I’m a big fan of powder foundations because they can give you coverage but it’s a much lighter, breathable on your skin and feels like you aren’t wearing anything. Wearing these recently has given me the light coverage I’ve wanted but hasn’t made my skin feel like I have a lot of product on though if I wanted to I could build product to give me more coverage. Normally I prefer a full coverage face but since I’m at home it’s not like I’m out to impress anyone really (my mum and brother wouldn’t really care if I had a full face on or not thankfully).

I wanted to show you my two favourite powder foundations, now the 2 I’m going to show you are highend foundation powders just because I haven’t found a drugstore product yet this is just as good (let me know if you have any recommendations). First up let’s chat Urban Decay Stay Naked Powder Fix . This foundation powder compact is £27.00 and described as a ‘medium buildable coverage, a real-skin matte finish, lasting up to 16 hours”. This powder is avaliable in 24 shades which is extremely impressive and Urban Decays biggest shade range. In this powder I’m shade 20CP which means fair skin with cool and pink undertones which matches up with the liquid foundation and concealer in the Stay Naked collection. I love using this powder and as you can see in the pic I’ve ever hit pan now so I’m going to need to be a little lighter with how much I use to make it last a bit longer.

My second foundation powder and a bit more of a recent purchase (feb I think) is the M.A.C Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation, £27.00. This powder is iconic and was recommended to me so many times I decided it was a now or never kinda situation so I treated myself to it. In this powder I am shade NW10 which again is a fair skin tone with pink undertones so again a perfect match for my skin tone. This powder is described as “ 24hr lasting formula, ultra matte medium buildable coverage with the a velvet texture to allow the skin to breathe”. While this powder has similar features to the Urban Decay powder this powder does have a few extra benefits such as reducing appearance of pores, photo friendly finish (meaning no flashback) and sweat and humidity resistant.

Both of these powders have become a real holy grail in my makeup collection and I wear either of these powders by themselves as a normal powder foundation or I use them on top of my foundation as a setting powder to give me even more coverage with a matte finish. If you are looking for something lightweight to give your skin a break or looking for some lighter alternatives with summer approaching these products are the dream combo. I have tested both powders in various situations and they have both lasted on me amazingly so while they are both a little pricey they are genuinely worth it.

But like I said if you have any cheaper alternatives please let me know.

Hope this week is treating you well so far. Mine has been a real pic’n’mix of a week so but that’s a story for another time. Today we are looking at one of Revolution Skin Cares newest releases the Mattify Boost Moisteriser. Now for anyone who has oily skin or oily zones and still wants to keep their skin moisterised without looking all shiney this is the product for us, I’m always looking for ways to keep my skin hydrated without it being left all shiney looking and this is probably the first product to ever follow through on that promise.

Revolution describe it as a “all-new forumlation for those with oily, blemish-prone complexions still seeking a hit of hydration! You can still expect the same skin-quenching sensation as our Hydration Boost Gel-Cream, but with added skin-friendly ingredients that will work a treat on oily, blemish-prone complexions”.

The main benefits of using a moisteriser like this are that first it leaves the skin looking mattified, it absorbs quickly into the skin so you’re not waiting ages for it to settle into the skin and lastly it has a cooling effect which leaves your skin feeling so refreshed. This product retails for £10.00 which considering a little goes along way a product like this will keep you going for a long time so it’s worth the investiment.

I’ve been using this product to hydrate my skin and prime my skin as it leaves my skin feeling soft and looking matte so it makes the perfect base to apply makeup to. If you’re looking for Hydrating products but have oily or combination skin then look no further, I’ve been using this for about 2 weeks (ish) now and I’m never going back now I know how great a product like this actually is.
