Matt jolts awake, the tang of iron heavy on his tongue and a frantic heart in his chest.

He is not losing any blood, the bed much softer than asphalt even though Mello isn’t in it this week. Near is and Matt doesn’t want to rouse him, so he calms himself down with deep quiet breaths.

But Near isn’t sleeping either – a hand lands on Matt’s chest; a gentle kiss on his cheek.

‘I never said thank you. For the postcard.’

Matt smiles. Of course Near broke the cipher.

‘Least I could do.’ He rolls over and pulls Near close.

Matt has slept in Mello’s bed for weeks. He likes it there, always has, with the smell of chocolate and conditioner and Mello’s skin. The only difference now is he’s also missing soft white curls.

Near will be fine! He’s not on his own; Mello was. He isn’t drawn to danger like metal filings to a magnet; Mello is.

Matt wishes he could send something, anything… a cipher on a postcard might do the trick? Near will figure it out, no matter how complex.

Mello stirs and Matt pulls him close, drowns his doubts in marred skin and blonde hair.

👀 + Matt x Mello and/or 👀 + Matt x Near??

I ship the OT3 hard with Matt as the major instigator, so here’s both:

👀 + Matt x Mello

Mello terrorizing the nearby town of Winchester, often with Matt as his ally for pranks

Mello being very bad at dealing with Matt’s depression (he has the kind that just makes you numb and apathetic and want to sleep all the time), and very aggressively trying everything to help him :/ 

Mello admitting he missed Matt for the first time after Matt find him in the mafia. It takes a few days. They both call the other ‘a fucking idiot’ a lot, but both enjoy sleeping in Mello’s shitty bed together. 

👀 + Matt x Near

Matt was the first friend Near had at Wammy’s, even though it bothered Mell like crazy, before Matt became depressed he was a very energetic kid who just wanted everyone to feel like they had a friend. 

Matt loves doing quiet things with Near, it’s nice to get away from Mello from time to time.

Matt staying at Wammy’s after Mello left because he doesn’t have the energy to go anyplace else but also is worried about leaving Near. Near eventually pushing Matt away ( :( ) because he can tell it’s killing Matt to worry about Mello this much, especially after the first year or so. Eventually, Matt just goes.
