Hi @astrallogic!! Our mission for this year's @dnsecretsanta was to make you a Higuchi-related gift -- here's a little drawing, and also a drabble (which you can read on AO3 or under the cut below). We had a lot of fun dipping into your blorbo's head and I hope you'll enjoy the attempt :3

He pulls the notebook towards himself until Rem lets go. ‘Sure, I’ll take it.’

No Dialogue Tag

so this is from an elaboration on one of our Matt/Near drabbles from rarepair week in march (MARCH????? WHAT THE HELL. WHERE HAS 2025 GONE). this fic is currently on the backburner and the excerpt is somewhat wip but solid enough for this game :3

The bed on Mello's side is neatly made -- much too neatly; Mello would never have bothered keeping it so tidy, let alone in the middle of the night. [He is a rotisserie chicken sleeper.] Near hesitates, standing in the middle; torn between wanting to be where Mello was, and not wanting to be alone in a bed too cold and too neat. Matt experiences no such dilemma, and virtually throws himself back under his blankets with a sleepy noise of contentment. When Near does not follow, Matt sits up, looking at him.

a mirror is an object that reflects an image

Near has never liked mirrors.

Near has never liked mirrors. He has a body, to interact with the world when he cares to and supply his brain with fuel for what he needs to do; he does not need to see what it looks like to be alive in it.

Of late, however, his lifelong aversion has turned into disconcerted fascination with the bathroom mirror.

He sees reminders of Mello etched in his own features. Placing his fingertips in juxtaposition to his reflection's feels right – the cool surface of the mirror a harsh reminder.

He and Mello are kept apart by more than coated glass.
