tabitha pressed one hand to her ear to block out the noise of screaming, giddy children, and used the other to push her phone against her uncovered ear. stillwater was plagued by horrible phone reception throughout the camp, tabby was struggling to recognize even her own brother’s voice through all the crackling and robotic hums. “AUGUST?” she shouted, trying to raise her voice above both the sounds of static and noisy kids. “i can’t hear you, gus, you’re going to have to speak up or...” she was cut off by some odd chirping sounds, she didn’t know her brother had become a bird in the short time she’d been away. “i’m gonna try and tell you one last time that i can’t hear a thing you’re saying,” she continued, “call me back when i’m NOT in the middle of nowhere.” for once she finally heard a hint of her brother’s voice say “wait,” but the call cut out anyways. she sighed, forcing the phone back in her pocket; what good was it to have it out here if it didn’t even work?
