Can we just take a moment to appreciate the peak adulthood-friendship between Max Lobo and Shunichi Ibé?

They're such a riot, trying to keep up with the young'n's. They are living the best portrayal of peoples' 30s I've ever seen lol (reference: I'm a 30sumting)

Bonus: they're an interracial and international friendship! We've got white American Max, and Japanese Shunichi.

They have a way of connecting and talking that transcends so many societal barriers. Considering the manga came out in the late 80s/early 90s, that makes me so happy to see. There wasn't a whole lot of wholesome diversity in the media at the time. Even when I was growing up in the 90s/early 00s, there wasn't a whole lot of it then either. Representation was often negative at best.

So here's to Max and Shunichi. かんぱい! 🍻

I feel the need to discuss Sonamy, seeing as how it is important to my interpretation of Sonic from earlier:

Sonic likes Amy. Amy likes Sonic. They both like each other and know. It wasn't always like this, but now it is. Everybody knows and accepts this. They aren't often that lovey-dovey, but they get sweet or sentimental at opportune times. Holding hands is notably reoccurring, hugs are somewhat rare, kisses are for big important stuff only. Their relationship dynamic is quite similar to their previous friendship dynamic, but still pretty different. They've grown up a lot since they first met. I portray all of the Sonic cast as more mature both mentally and physically.
