Day 286
Our big event of the day - buying a toaster! Pretty darn sad.
We really wanted to take a drive, as Billy and I are both on a break from work, but the boys absolutely did not want to go. So, we decided to just let them have a few hours on their own. I said to Billy in the car, sitting in the driveway when we dropped them off at the house after Best Buy, “They probably need some time away from us.” He and I left, had a walk, and stopped to get a cup of absolutely delicious hot chocolate. Glad it wasn’t Starbucks. Really glad we gave the boys some breathing room. We needed it, too.
Low energy and no mood to cook, but I did put together some matzoh balls for the leftover turkey soup. Popped some French bread in the oven, and that was dinner. Very warming and the matzoh balls made the soup even richer and heartier.
I hated the movie we saw last night, “I’m Thinking of Ending Things.” It’s such a cold movie. It takes place almost entirely in a snowstorm, for one. Billy also hated it at first, but then, this morning, he analyzed it really well and parts of it made a lot of sense after listening to him talk about it. Still, I feel like the only thing I can welcome into my life right now are things - books, movies, people, food - that bring deep comfort.
