Cause of death - spoiler warning

Ethan Winters: Head crushed under boot, then became a part of the Mold infection and lived a semi regular life after the events of 7, even having a Mold powered baby but eventually had his heart ripped out and blew up to protect said baby.

Captain Max Howard: Early in the game, the main cast—a specialized task force for demon killing who wield redeemed versions of demons, which are called Legions—goes to the demon's realm and have to try to make it back to earth. When their Legions are corrupted and start fighting against them, the Captain decides to take them all on himself to give the rest of the main team—two of his old friends-slash-coworkers and the protagonists and player characters of the game, the twins he adopted as infants—time to escape. The weight of the loss weighs heavily on your twin and it is his death that drives the character development for them. His sacrifice is central to the game and all the characters mourn him greatly, plus the voice actors gave their all to making that scene as heart wrenching as possible.

it's missing max hours. he deserved so much better. god

like okay. i like to watch people play this game blind because sometimes they can offer new perspectives on the characters or the world and i just can't help but be really emotional about max, like i love the layers to his character and how you learn more about him even after he's gone.

but mostly i'm just emotional over how much he just, cares. about everyone. the twins especially. but also about jin and alicia, and even all those stray cats. you see how much he cares in his body language, his expressions, his dialogue... it's just so. ough. i am feeling things

i just think about that line where akira says max wanted to save the whole world, not just the humans, and it makes me go WAHHHH

this guy genuinely just wanted to create the perfect world for his kids, especially because they were born at the worst place at the worst time. they never knew a clean world before corruption, before the ark. but max did. he remembers it. and if he has a chance of giving that experience to them, you best believe he's going to take it. i just love how genuine he is, like a lot of the characters in this game are. it adds a lot of weight to the storytelling.

I went into Astral Chain for some excellent Platinum gameplay, but ended up falling in love with the supporting cast. :’) Every time someone mentioned Max became a huge softie due to fatherhood, I just.... *heart clutch*
