Facebook, Google hit with multi-billion dollars lawsuits on first day of GDPR privacy and consent rules
On day one of the new GDPR privacy and consent rules in the European Union, Google (and its Android operating system) and Facebook (including WhatsApp and Instagram) were served with lawsuits that allege the companies “coerce users” into sharing personal data in violation of the law.
The lawsuits are asking for more than $8 billion (U.S. dollars) in fines from each company.

Max Schrems will die Schufa verklagen
Sobald in einem Monat die neue EU-Datenschutzgrundverordnung (DSGVO) gilt möchte der Jurist Max Schrems mit seiner Organisation noyb gegen die deutsche Schufa klagen. Denn er fragt sich, mit welchem Recht von rund 70 Millionen Deutschen Kreditinformationen aufbewahrt werden, ohne dass sie jemals etwas nicht bezahlt haben.
Bisher waren Datenschutzverstöße ein "Klacks" für die Beklagten, nun aber drohen bis zu 4% des Jahresumsatzes als mögliches Bußgeld. Das würde gerade auch den Großen, wie Google, Apple und Amazon weh tun.
Welche Daten darf Apple von mir verlangen, nur weil ich sein iPhone gekauft habe?
Darf Google mich zwingen ein Google Konto anzulegen, weil ich ein Android Telefon nutzen möchte?
Beim Fall der Schufa kommt hinzu, dass eine (privatrechtliche) Firma sich anmaßt als Aufsehen über Geldgeschäfte für alle Einwohner eines Landes tätig zu werden. Die meisten Menschen haben die Schufa nie damit beauftragt und haben auch kein Vertragsverhältnis mit ihr. Gerade dieses Nicht-Verhältnis macht die Kommunikation mit der Schufa schwierig, wie Stephan Urbach in seinem Monate andauernden "Eigenversuch" beschreibt.
