i realize this is probably an unpopular af opinion bc no one likes to have fun anymore but i had an absolute blast with Knightfight and i refuse to be ashamed about it

• first of all, i am a Simple Creature and enjoyed getting to see the prev suits for jason, tim, and damian again, in dan mora’s art no less, in the flashback

• i give zero shits about the quick, single sentence/word descriptors of the robins bc they’re literally like shorthand okay, they’re not definitive character essays. if you need the writer to give you an essay that carefully lays out their complexities and nuance every time they do a rapid fire intro maybe the problem is not the writer

• THIS IS A FUN GROUP SHOT! I! LOVE! FUN! ROBIN!GROUP! SHOTS!

• also always love this particular brand of contemplation from bruce. i realize it can be interpreted in a bunch of different ways, and i don’t always necessarily love every avenue of exploration, but when it feels less like bruce whining and more like him genuinely being like…how do i phrase this…hopeful? proud? with a tinge of like melancholy? i live for it

• it is my assumption, okay, that bruce has been boom tubed to an alt reality/timeline/whatever the appropriate terminology is, and furthermore, it was also my assumption going into this that he would wind up in alt realities that were a Little Messed Up. I WAS EXCITED TO SEE HOW THINGS WOULD HAVE GONE WRONG IN THESE ALT VERSES AND THIS ISSUE DID NOT DISAPPOINT (also, it is my understanding that bruce does not immediately come to the conclusion that he is in an alt timeline/universe)

• “bruce would never —” i’m gonna stop you right there. yes he would. i just read batman: venom okay. and also, clearly???? clearly the bruce of this reality was Not Doing Okay??? is it not fun to consider the ways bruce/batman might break in similar but different realities??? LIKE. IT’S NOT OUR BRUCE. BUT ITS A VERSION OF BRUCE. YOU CANNOT LOOK ME IN THE EYE AND TELL ME ITS OOC TO WRITE THAT MAN ON THE VERGE OF LOSING IT/MAKING BAD DECISIONS THAT HE THINKS ARE FOR THE BENEFIT OF GOTHAM. AND IT’S AN ALT REALITY. SO YOU CAN PLAY WITH THE BAD ENDING. THIS IS MESSY AND FUN C’MON

• yes, bruce, i too would love to know what happened with selina but i fear that question will not be answered in the scope of this story. a girl can hope tho

• also like, immediately love how aggressive dick is right off the bat bc it tells you right away that whatever his bruce did was Fucked Up. and like sure, maybe you think it’s just that he took a dip in the pit but like no, that is just a distraction

• as a rule, i am generally not a huge fan of “and so we trained everyone to be robin” timelines so yk. but i will say that i really loved that the titans were part of things bc they’re really so important to dick. so am i obsessed with this robin program? no, not really. am i obsessed with dick working with his team? yes ofc.

• love love love the conversation they have here bc like AAAAAAA this is what is so FUN about a character getting placed in an alt-but-similar universe, the way you can hold a mirror up to them but it’s an imperfect mirror, like this is not commentary on who Actual Bruce™️ is, it’s commentary on who this dick’s bruce was, this version of bruce that is broken. it’s a fear of who bruce could be or become. and i LOVE it when a character has to reckon with their inside thoughts as outside thoughts.

• also enjoy dick not being able to just be like “yes, i would want them to be batman” bc like this nods to the fact that passing the mantle down is not purely about trust

• do not even try to complain about “bRuCe iS fIgHtinG hIs kIds agAiN” THIS IS A DAMN SUPERHERO COMIC. THEY’RE HEROES. THEY FISTFIGHT. IT’S A FORM OF COMMUNICATION. i can’t understand this for you. (and just bc i can’t help myself, yes, ofc, obviously, there are times that bruce is Out of Line, but every single time they fight that is not the case and that’s not what’s happening here)

• istg it’s like a requirement for the writers to point out how graceful and fluid dick’s fighting style is, how he’s born for this, but like yk what i’m not even mad, dick is incredible and how many different ways are there to say that. he’s the best.

• again, it is so fun for me to see this warped mirror reflection. are there going to be people who read into this in other ways? duh! do i care? LOL. look, the people that take this the “wrong” way are just using it to support what they already believe. good for them! not my problem

• hrhrhrhrhrhrhrhrhrgrhrh obsessed with bruce genuinely being conflicted by dick’s argument and also the fact that dick is even making the argument bc bc bc AUGH the PERSPECTIVES HERE OKAY I’M— LOOK

bruce thinks is his dick (haha). the whole situation with zur and whatever the hell happens in h2sh that we still don’t know about bc of delays is still fresh for him. all of that, combined with how this comic opens, sets up a really solid spot for bruce to be wondering if he is still useful to gotham, if he himself still needs to be batman. all bruce wants is to be useful, to be helpful. and there are few people he trusts the way he trusts dick, and if dick has really accomplished all of this, and is so sure that bruce needs to stop…

and then dick!! for him, he’s dealing with the guy who raised him, then killed most of their family, then lost his mind to the pit, and yet rather than just immediately neutralize him (and yk damn well he could), he’s trying to reach him. to save him. to get bruce (who he thinks is his bruce) to finally make the right choice. after everything, dick is giving him a chance. which— which— AUGH DICK AND BRUCE. god they make me insane

• the reveal of the other robins being dead was so satisfying, even with seeing it coming, bc of the perspective shift. the realization (i assume) on bruce’s behalf that he is not in his gotham. the way that it confirms (for me) or reveals why dick has been so cutting and aggressive. and???? HELLO??? BRUCE HAS TO DEAL WITH THAT NOW MWAHAHAHAHA

• bruce is just so much fun to torture and mindfuck okay, bc he’s a good guy who knows he’s flawed and lowkey has a shit sense of self worth so like sue me i like seeing his buttons get pressed

will i enjoy the other issues this much? i have no idea! i may wind up hating the whole thing, who knows. but i did thoroughly enjoy this one and i’m excited to see how the rest of this plays out!!

As for her lore, shes a mad scientist basically. She has a weird ideology about science, considering it a form of art. A former researcher of the Fontaine Research Institute, she quit after she found hereelf misaligning with the way the institute handles itself. She now works as a freelancer that takes comissions on the go, her latest one being an offer given by Wriothesley regarding a particular secret project.

Her past is a little cloudy but she was once a member of high society, her mother a diplomat from Sumeru who settled in fontaine after marrying a noble from Fontaine. She's since been disowned by the family due to several complications. Not that she cares.

Whats her vision element? Geo? Anemo? Sike. Its Electro. Misdirection– its on the back of her jacket.

Been an absolute while since I've been on here but I just read your latest scrapbook max and I need to know how gp reacted to seeing max for the first time cuz I'm imagining an adoption on sight lol

archi anon hello!! I hope school has been going well :)

I kind of imply it with that line about GP, but he's a professor who specializes in fog research, especially with adolescents, which is why he's with the academy.

he teaches fog theory to the seniors, but other than that most students don't see him, and even then his class is an elective lol. most consider it very boring.

that's mostly just to say that the whole reason daniel and jev don't write max off as a lost cause- even if they think he is- is because he's young, and he's clearly had prolonged fog exposure, and there's an academic value to be had there. sure, the academy won't send one of their own students down like that, but if they find someone already down there...

if not for that factor, daniel and jev would've just executed him. or tried to, anyways. it's considered a more humane end for fog victims who have clearly lost their mind but are still alive.

but sunny, max clearly hasn't lost his mind, he's reasonable in the other ficlets

he's a unique critter in ways I have not yet addressed.

that initial meeting where GP has gotten a message along the lines of "pulled a kid out of the fog who's been down there for a while, want to look?" (yes, the answer is always yes) is actually GP going to meet them, expecting to meet a kid who's completely lost it in the fog. instead, he starts to realize what daniel and jev didn't- that max is much more aware and present than they're giving him credit for, and that he's not fragmented in the way a typical fog victim is.

max is brought to the academy under those conditions, not technically as a student but more as GP's intern? they can't be like "professor lambiase is getting research from him" because that just sounds bad, but max isn't quite a student either, at least not initially.

so for maybe a day or two GP is viewing him strictly in an academic capacity, until he starts to actually see max, and then he's like "oh, I have a son now. if anyone hurts him I'm killing them."
