if 'hikaru's insatiable hunger for souls comes from the incurable feeling of emptiness and cold (and not because of hunger itself), that implies the act of consuming souls is futile. no matter how many souls he eats, it won't fill the void of his souless nature, thus maybe, the answer to his anguish it isn't in consuming, because eating is about making something dissappear within our bodies. so just maybe, having a constant source of warm by his side, like a bonfire that gives warmth and nice cooked food– like home, to his cold and hungry nature, he won't feel hungry or lonely anymore. I believe if yoshiki and 'hikaru' mix together it will serve this thematical and literal purpose, yoshiki's warm soul will fill the empty cold void in 'hikaru'.
