Honestly I want an entire book about Mayen. The Aes Sedai with her two brothers as Warders seems to be only the tip of a very interesting iceberg when it comes to this country. It seems like such a fascinating and great culture with so much potential. Don't get me wrong I like the other cultures as well but there is something so alluring about Mayen

It’s definitely an intriguing one - maybe in part because we see so little of it, compared to most of the other nations at this point (except maybe Arafel; we haven’t really seen much of that one either).

So hey there Wheel of Time tag, have some post-AMOL headcanons of mine that I decided to finally write out:

(Warning: SPOILERS, obviously, this is after the end of the series I’m talkin’ here)

With the Last Battle won and her life’s mission complete Moiraine originally intends to spend her days travelling the world with Thom, avoiding the major cities and political intrigues of the day and instead seeking small-scale causes to deal with. She is thus initially quite annoyed when Cadsuane assigns her to be the new White Tower adviser to the Saldaean throne, on the reasoning that she already knows Faile and her husband better than any in the Tower. She ultimately she comes to enjoy the role.

Cadsuane serves as Amyrlin for only a little more than a year before quietly dying in her sleep, succumbing to age. One of the focuses of her reign is maintaining and strengthening the reforms put in place by Egwene, and carrying forward on her plans to maintain permanent ties between the Tower and other women who can channel, particularly the Aiel Wise Ones. These efforts are largely successful. 

Relations with the Black Tower are another main initiative of hers, and are much more contentious. Cadsuane believes that allowing the Asha’man to play the leading role in the post-Last Battle recovery and rebuilding effort is a necessary step in showing the world that men who can channel can be trusted, while the leadership of the Hall mostly believes it should be the Aes Sedai who are publicly seen as leading the effort, strengthening the position of the White Tower.

Cadsuane is succeeded by Merana Ambrey, who gained notoriety after the Last Battle for leading a Tower embassy to Shara, opening up diplomatic and trade relations there while also assisting in negotiations between various factions that generally lead to bring a relative stability to the chaotic situation that Demandred’s defeat brought. 

Relations between Mayene and the White Tower become increasingly strained as Berelain refuses to accept a new adviser to replace Annoura. (It is concluded that being burned out cannot be Healed as stilling can, though Nynaeve refuses to concede this for a very long time) The tensions only grow when she marries Galad, who establishes a new Fortress of the Light in the country. Despite his pledges that the Children of the Light under his leadership will not follow the old doctrines about women who can channel, the White Tower continues to view the Whitecloaks with deep suspicion. 

Mayene prospers in many ways though. The hospital established during the Last Battle becomes the greatest center for the study of non-Channeling Healing in the world, with hedge doctors, Wisdoms, Readers and others traveling there to share and study knowledge of herbs, diseases, anatomy, etc., and a more advanced understanding of medical science begin to emerge. 

A more positive relationship with Tear allows Mayene to expand it’s territory and increase sea trade, and many who once did business in the west but now seek to avoid Seanchan-held ports look eastward, and more open ties to the Aiel and the new opportunities with Shara put Mayene in a prime location. Despite it’s small size, Mayene finally comes to be regarded as truly equal to the other nations, and indeed more powerful than a number of them.
