Pissarro returned to Montfoucault again and again, not because the fields were pretty but because they were real. Even with a painful eye condition, he kept painting outdoors, following the heat, the moving clouds and the dry gold of the harvest. In "The Harvest in Montfoucault", the woman near the haystack is simply pausing mid-work. The other figures bend into the field behind her. Nothing is turned into a grand symbol.
