WARNING: Spoiler for The Death Cure. I worked really hard on this Thominewt imagine, and hope you guys enjoy it! ~~~~~ Just imagine Newt waking up in the Glade one morning. He throws the covers off his bed, well your bed since you guys share it, and kisses you on the forehead. You smile a little bit in your sleep. He looks down at you longingly and wishes it didn't have to end this way, but he's made up his mind. "Goodbye, Y/N," he whispers, as he chokes down a sob. He emerges from the Homestead as he does every morning, but today the sky just seems darker, the air colder. He knows what he's going to do today, and there's no backing out now. Eating his breakfast and collecting his supplies goes by in a blur. Before he knows it, he's standing before the Doors that lead out into the Maze, ready to enter at Minho's command. Minho comes up behind him and slaps him on the back. "Ready to go, Newt?" He asks with his usual grin. Newt musters up his biggest smile back, and looks over at his good friend. To think this is the last time he will ever see him. "No," he thinks to himself. "There's no time to be emotional." Minho couldn't have stopped his decision. No one could stop Newt from doing what he had been planning to do for months. Newt was about to step into the Maze, when Alby came up behind him and put his hand gently on his shoulder. "I'll see you later, right?" he asks. Newt can't even look up at him because he knows that the answer is "no." He can't bear to say goodbye to his best friend forever, so he doesn't. He feels tears welling in his eyes. He runs through the Maze with ease, leaning into the turns left and right, but never he's able to get out of his mind what he has planned. What is going to happen to himself. He stops running at one point and walks up to the nearest wall, grabs the nearest vine, and climbs up. Newt climbs halfway up the wall before he looks down and sees the ground, very far down. It really hit him right then and there what he was about to do, and he begins to cry. Sobs rake his chest, and he leans his head against the wall. He really wished he didn't have to do this, but the Maze had broken him. Made him lose hope. The only thing that kept him in the Glade was you, but now that wasn't even enough. He felt unwanted and useless. He wanted all the hopelessness, the pain and suffering, all of it to end. And with that last thought, Newt let go of the vine and allowed himself to fall. To fall to his death a hundred feet down. * Now picture Minho running through the Maze, making his way back to the Glade, when he sees Newt, sprawled out on the ground, unmoving. His leg is bent in the wrong direction, and his face is scratched up, bleeding. Minho immediately rushes to Newt's side and checks for a heartbeat. He's crying, sobbing to himself, "Newt, Newt, come on... Be alive... Please be alive." He hears a heartbeat, but still needs to get his friend back to safety. He's unconscious. Minho scoops Newt up into his arms, and takes off sprinting down the corridors of the Maze, all the while, whispering into his ear, "It's alright. Everything is going to be all right." Not that Newt can hear him, but Minho wants to trick himself into thinking that if he says it, it's true. It has to be true. Newt has to be alright. Minho runs full speed into the Glade, and passes Newt to the nearest Med-Jack. He is rushed into the Homestead, and is laid onto a bed. Minho never leaves his side. Newt gets bandaged up as best as possible, but Minho knows that his leg will never be the same again. He himself may never be the same again. Newt is asleep, and Minho is watching him, thinking. Thinking about how he could have gotten hurt. Grievers? Or, could it have been something else? Suddenly, Newt opens his eyes, squinting up at the light. He sees Minho, and their eyes lock. Then, they both burst into tears and hug each other, squeezing tight. Little do they know that they're both crying for different reasons. Minho is crying tears of joy. Newt is crying because he knows he failed himself, failed the one job he left himself to do. The promise that he made to himself, the promise that he would get himself out of the wretched Maze, even if it meant ending it for himself. He had broken that promise to himself, and would have to live everyday afterwards remembering. Remembering that he had failed. * Now picture Thomas, sitting inside WICKED headquarters, watching all of this unfold. He has been watching all of the Gladers for two years now, through the eyes of the beetle blades, and he feels like he knows each and every one if them like they are his own best friends. Newt and Minho were his favorite, and he just felt a strong connection to them whenever he watched over them. Thomas watched over them everyday, making sure they were alright. He is watching Newt run through the Maze, when suddenly, he sees him climb the wall. He watches as Newt cries to himself, and he's confused. "Why is Newt crying?" he wonders to himself. Thomas feels his fingers reaching towards the screen, wishing that he could comfort him through the screen. Then, he watches Newt let go of the vine and fall. "NO," he screams, a little too loudly. Thomas pounds his fists on his little desk, and feels like punching the screen. He hot tears fill his eyes, and presses his hand against his mouth to prevent himself from crying out again. Newt just fell to his death, and there was nothing Thomas could do about it. His own friend, who he hardly even knew or met, but still meant something to him in his own heart. "Someone, anyone" he cries out. "We've gotta send someone out there to help Newt. Someone's gotta save him!" Thomas is yelling now, desperate. He has just watched Newt fall from the wall, and is now laying half dead on the floor of the Maze. He doesn't even know Newt that well, but for some reason he feels a connection to him. He wishes that he could jump into the Maze and help him, save him. No one volunteers to help Newt. Thomas sits back down to watch the screen, and he sees that Minho has found Newt and is sitting in the Homestead with him. Newt appears to be alive. He finds himself smiling, relieved that he's alright. He then sees that Newt has sat up and is hugging Minho against his chest, crying with him. Minho seems to be smiling with tears in his eyes, but Newt seems to be crying tears of sadness. Thomas has no idea if Newt is actually alright or not, but he's alive and that's all he cares about. He smiles and feels tears of joy welling in his own eyes. His two friends are safe.
