Day 2 - Bangkok - MBK Mall, Thai Cuisine, PingPong Shows and pre-surgery prep
So by midday on day 2 I was starting to feel better. After a shower and a paddle pop I was ready for more shopping so Mum and I headed to MBK mall. Seeing as I had not made it to breakfast that morning Mum had gone by herself where she met a few other girls who were on the group tour through Destination Beauty and had all had their surgery a week ago. When I came down we were talking about what to expect and they really put my mind at ease. The even invited us out to dinner later that night and then to the Ping Pong show after.
MBK - WOW !!! The sheer size of the place is amazing and you definitely need a few days to get around the place. So many shops selling everything from shoes, bags clothes and jewellery. There is even a beauty level where you ca get botox, facials, massages and your nails done. We spent a few hours here before we were due back at the hotel for dinner - though we will be going back for sure once I am feeling up to it after surgery. WE had quite a bit of trouble getting back to the hotel as all the taxi drivers did not know where our hotel was - I suggest getting the hotel staff to write down the hotel address for you. In the end mum and I got on the back of a guys scooter (yes all 3 of us) and he took us back to our hotel. As we had been walking for about 30 minutes we did not realise that we were only a 5 minute ride away.
Taxis are the best transport here as they are air-conditioned and are relatively cheap. Tuk-tuks charge more as do scooters thought scooters will get you there a lot quicker.
We got back to the hotel had showers and got dressed and headed down stairs where we met up with the 4 other girls who had come on the group tour. We went to an amazing authentic little Thai restaurant where they had a yummy selection of meals form curries, stir-frys and spring rolls. I got a Green Thai curry for 95 Baht ($3.50 NZD) and it was the most yummiest thing I had ever eaten. The other girls got garlic chicken and chicken cashew -all were equally as yum and I will definitely be returning to try out the rest of the menu.
One of the Thai tour guides met us and took us through the Patpong Markets where I managed to score a few designer copy bags (Prada, YSL and Chanel, all 3 for less than $90 NZD) and 3 pairs of Haviana Jandals for 450 BAHT ($16 NZD). The whole time at the markets we constantly had Thai people coming up to us saying "PINGPONG you like PINGPONG" they all had little lists that showed you what was included in the show - fish, razors and birds to name a few. Our guide however was taking us to the original one. While all other shows were light up with bright lights and signs, we went down a back alley to a plain brick building, once inside we paid of 700 Baht ($25 NZD) and took our seats. Our guide told us that the girls would do a round and then the show would start from the beginning again. All in all there was about 8 girls who performed about 2-3 acts each. Never before have I witnessed anything like that - wont go into too much detail but some of the things these woman can do left me feeling rather inadequate ! LOL Just a few hints - smoking, ping-pongs, darts, blowing out candles, 20mtrs of UV ribbon and fairy lights, oh and can't forget the CLIMAX - thanks to or guide or did not warn us about the guy on girl rehearsed 30 position sex routine - quite funny when a room of about 60 people (most 50+ year old couples) cheer him on when he finally finishes.
So this is the night before surgery and we are going to be checking out of our hotel in the morning, we pack up our suitcases (we will leave these in hotel storage as we will be checking back in after hospital). I also pack an overnight bag for hospital including a change of clothes, my laptop, a book and a few necessities (hairbrush, toothbrush etc).
Off to bed early as tomorrow is the big day !
