sophie had been about to close when the storm started, the lightning starting quickly and far too close for comfort. having seen someone on the street looking to get out of the rain, sophie waved them in, figuring this was better than trying to find shelter elsewhere. “you can wait out the worst of it here.”

“you uh, you look nice winry.” ed knew he was smart. he had known ever since he was a child that he knew way more than most other kids. it was a fact that had come around to bite him in the ass, but that didn’t make it untrue. despite that he didn’t know anything about this! going with winry had felt like a good idea at the time (it still did despite his nerves) but now he had no idea how he was supposed to be acting. “i don’t know how anyone moves in these clothes.” he said, tugging at the sleeve of his jacket, having insisted on wearing the red coat despite the formal wear underneath. “so it’s going to be a mess if you want to dance.” not that he wouldn’t do it, but the warning felt necessary.

"You look really show stopper honey, really, you look gorgeous, nothing wrong with your look" she replied with honesty. "No, don't say it! Red is definitely your color! Plus a chance can be good. I'm not lying or joking to you, you look fabulous, darling! And yes, of course I'm going to help you!".

“okay, please tell me it looks cute.” pj said, not being able to see what the other was doing, but she could feel her hair moving. honestly, she was just thankful for the help, to get the hair off of her neck. it was way too hot, and with just her luck, her only hair tie had broken. “you’re a life saver, by the way.”

his natural reaction was to start complaining, that he could say whatever he wanted, and why did she care, but edward held back the childish instinct for now. “i’m not planning on going anywhere win.” not unless he suddenly figured out how to get them back home, but he intended on taking everyone back with him if that was the case. it’s not like he’d been much good at staying around before, but winry had know what ed’s goals were, and as much as he cared about her, fixing his mistake and making things alright for al had always taken priority. “but i also didn’t plan on showing up here. i doubt you did either. i just want to make sure you’ll be alright if something happens again.”
