“Now, don’t let Mary or Macy scare you when they get here. They love to talk more than they mean.” Mandy says as she straightens out the pillows on the couch once more.
“Honey, you left out Molly.” you say jokingly.
Exasperated, Mandy looks over to you and shakes her head. “Molly will eat us both alive. Not even the Lord above could save us if this goes wrong.”
You move across the room and pull Mandy into a tight embrace. “No matter what happens, I love you, and your sisters aren’t going to chase me off.”
There isn’t a knock, the screen door slams open and three women who all look incredibly similar to your girlfriend make their way into the house uninvited. “Well, well. This must be who our little baby sister has been going on about.” The tall one jokes.
“Stop it, Mary.” Mandy huffs.
“It’s Christmas. Shouldn’t we all try to get along?” you say trying to diffuse the room. Though if Mandy’s sisters were anything like Rowan, it was a fruitless effort.
“No.” The three visiting sisters reply in unison.
“Thank you for trying.” Mandy whispers before she kisses your cheek.
Marcus is pacing the room, and to be honest, it’s making you dizzy. “Hey, Sweetheart. You want to talk before they get here?”
Marcus pauses and looks at you, eyes wide. “I’m sorry. I don’t know why I’m so nervous. Momma and Daddy are going to love you… it’s just… I haven’t brought anyone home since high school.”
“Well, if we’re being technical, you still haven’t brought anyone home since high school. They are coming here.” You joke, trying to draw a laugh from your partner.
Marcus holds a finger up as if he is going to debate the statement, but there is a knock at the door. He rushes to the door, pulling it open. “Momma, Daddy. It’s so good to see you! Come in. It’s freezing out. Do you want something to drink?”
You watch with slight amusement as the questions come out rapid fire.
Then his dad's eyes catch yours. “I guess you are who we have heard so much about?”
His voice is warm like Marcus’. You can’t help but smile. “Yeah, that’s me.”
Marcus comes back into the room with two mugs, probably a hot tea. “Yeah, this is them. Aren’t they great?” He says as his eyes light up.
You lean over and kiss him on the cheek. As you pull away, you catch the faint flush that appears across his face.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you both. I can’t wait to get to know you better.”
