A Duel For the History Books

It's late, but this is the fic I wrote for the MDZS big bang this year! I was paired with two incredible artists and I had so much fun working with them, so make sure to pass on your love to them as well!

Summary:

“Lord Nie. I implore you to accept my request, just this one time.”

Nie Huaisang let out an awkward laugh. “Ah, of course, Prince Lan. I’ll do whatever I can, as long as it’s in my power.”

There was a flicker in Prince Lan’s eyes, there and gone too soon for Wei Wuxian to be certain, but the glimpse he saw was akin to ferocious triumph. He didn’t have much time to think on it before the Prince captured his gaze again, and he watched in shock as the man slipped off the glove of his left hand and tossed it onto the ground in front of Nie Huaisang.

Whatever air had started a tentative circulation of the room dissipated in a second at the display, and Wei Wuxian heard but couldn’t make sense of the words that followed.

“I humbly request a duel for Lord Wuxian’s hand in marriage, Lord Nie.”

So that’s what it is—Lan Wangji laments that he can’t fuck him into the mattress tonight as he so dearly wishes, when he must instead serve the nation that is his birthright. “Don’t be silly,” Wei Wuxian laughs at him, enjoying the immediacy of Lan Wangji’s suspicion. “I can still serve my emperor while he works.” Lan Wangji’s fingers tighten a fraction on his hair before releasing, so, so tempted, but pulls his hand away. “Wei Ying is very distracting. The noises you make would be impossible to resist.” He bites his lip mischievously, the sharp fangs of his teeth gently gnawing at his skin. “Then this loyal concubine will ensure that no noise will be made at all.” “You cannot promise such a thing,” Lan Wangji warns him, but notably doesn’t intervene when Wei Wuxian starts to slowly peel his robes open, thumbing at the line of his skirt. “You are incapable of staying silent.” And Wei Wuxian simply laughs. “Of course I am. There just has to be something in my mouth first.”
