My Hedgehogs Table Manners

I don’t know what to do with my Hedgehog... She has terrible table manners! I gave her a hot-dog and some ketchup and a few peanut butter crackers she stuck her plodders (I mean her feet) onto the table that was so clean and with a squeak that was discreet she demanded a side of green beans and because I wanted her to consume the meal I prepared for her I fetched her a small dish with a few green beans, I placed next to the crackers and she surveyed her meal so nice and quickly made the scene a disaster she got her hotdog and kicked it off the table, where the ketchup spattered onto the floor. She rammed her head (Don’t ask me why, she’s a grump) Into the crackers with peanut spread and into the green beans they thumped The food was spilling everywhere she huffed and puffed and squeaked and I just shook my head, I didn’t care and I’ll never know why she freaked. But then as I started to clean the mess she was there just eating her green beans For this incident I don’t love her any less, She is still my tiny hedgehog queen.

Good evening, Yagen. What are meal times like in the Citadel? Is there any difference between breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Are meals mostly vegetarian considering the Citadel has a garden or are meats bought from town?

We gather in the main hall to eat. It isn’t required for everyone to join but most of us do. (Ookurikara usually skips out unless he’s dragged in by Mitsutada.) You can imagine how loud and energetic mealtimes are when there are around sixty of us gathered in one place. It’s a good way to socialize with one another and stay in touch.

We take turns working as a team to prepare and serve each meal. Most meals are vegetarian, you’re correct on that guess. Our garden is very productive. We do have meat or fish as well but it’s expensive to purchase enough to feed everyone so we keep our consumption down to a few times a week. Sometimes an expedition team will bring back a deer or some fish and we’ll add that to the menu.

The kitchen is always open though so any time someone wants to make a private meal they are welcome to do so. I often pop in and make a snack before settling into a project in my lab.
