i just wanna say i love how fork is characterized. Seeing how goofy but serious he could be is honestly my favorite kind of character mix. Also i wanted to ask, how do you create your characters? Is it sort of just out on a whim or more methodical?
Aw thank you! goofy/serious is one of my favorite mix too. As for creating characters, I’d say it really depends on the character? Each one can have a variety of things which influences making them and they never really stop developing them or trying to get to know them better. However i would say, it wont take much before i feel a character is ready to be thrown into existance. I’m very used to making virtually things on the spot and rolling with it. Characters really reveal themselves once you throw them into situations and watch them bounce off eachother. Alternatively, Knife took a lot of time for me to write and understand as i wanted to feel very clear and deliberate with what i wanted with his character. He also is very focused on his own morals, they do not easily change or can be influenced by anyone else.. so i knew i had to understand his was from the start, otherwise it would likely cause problems if he was too inconsistent with them. He has changed a lot from my first impressions, however, but many aspects of him felt decided from my first spark of inspiration. I could almost describe it as just an odd feeling in a way, of someone’s mind or soul? Crimson is in many ways, a remake of a personal rp character i have years of experience writing beforehand. While that character is still very much its own entity, it was something that i took into consideration as i wanted to replicate aspects of the older character. This makes crimson stand out (for better and for worse) so i decided to lean into it in many ways narratively, as i feel like it honors the aspects of my writing that i feel represent my personal gluttony. in some ways crimson feels almost like a role represented that would have come out in my work even if i tried to hide it. (to put it plainly, crimson represents a type of character that is basically in everything i make.) Crimson isnt really alone tho, i have a lot of personal character-tropes or aspects of characters that come back again and again in my stories. Even if its unintentional, many characters seem to fall into various ‘character trees’ of ocs ive made or are odd combinations of visual/personalities/similar histories. i like to document and observe these patterns to break away from choices as well as make fun nods to myself by intentionally making similarities too.In the end, each character really has its own story with how i made it. Even characters that are technically the same exact character will feel very different bc of the experiences they had, and i often feel nostalgic/long for prototype versions of characters that actually ended up being very different than what i ended up writing. (did you know fork was meant to be more sleazy and actually kind of cruel?) for an example of a character made on a whim, Aeschylus is probably a prime example of a character i put 0 thought into that i decided to put a lot of effort into making him feel worth being sad over dying. (when he first died i literally did not care as he was made up to just be something to get shot immediately.)
